42 years ago today Elvis died aged 42. Nothing in press or on tv that I have seen. Such a shame

Why would there be anything in the news or on the papers though? If they printed/ showed something to remember the anniversary of every famous person that had died, the would be no room for any real news!

SaskiaRembrandt · 16/08/2019 18:21

It's also the anniversaries of the deaths of Babe Ruth and the Emperor Tiberius, and of the founding of the Coldstream Guards. No one has mentioned any of that either.

SaskiaRembrandt · 16/08/2019 18:23

And anyway, any fool knows Elvis isn't dead. He worked for many years collecting trolleys in the car park of Doncaster's Tesco, and has now retired to sheltered accommodation in Filey.

Ilovetolurk · 16/08/2019 18:25

I doubt he’s in Filey. I had my photo taken with him in Vegas last week

AmIThough · 16/08/2019 18:26

In 8 years time he will have died 50 years ago and it will be irrelevant to anyone under the age of 60 in reality. What's your point?

A police officer died attending a burglary today - that is a relevant news story, not a singer who died 42 years ago.

TheresWaldo · 16/08/2019 18:27

um yes because it was 42 years ago.

Pardonwhat · 16/08/2019 18:27

How have you remembered? Genuinely interested. I’m rubbish with anniversaries.

SaskiaRembrandt · 16/08/2019 18:27

He really gets about Grin

Livebythecoast · 16/08/2019 18:32

I remember the day he died - I was 7 years old and my Mum cried all day and didn't send my Sister & I to school!

OMGshefoundmeout · 16/08/2019 18:33

I read this title and was really sad as I thought Elvis Costello had died.

maddiemookins16mum · 16/08/2019 18:37

Never liked him and mum often made comments about how it was overlooked that at 24 he was dating a 14 year old (Priscilla).

DanielRicciardosSmile · 16/08/2019 18:40

42 isn't really a significant anniversary though. I imagine in 2027 there'll be more of a fuss made.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 16/08/2019 19:21

Yeah, I was worried for Elvis Costello for a minute.

HouseholdPlantMurderer · 16/08/2019 19:31

He was trending on twitter.
There was an article in metro too.

Agree with pp. 42 isn't particularly important anniversary

StoneofDestiny · 16/08/2019 20:24

Don't get the obsession about a long dead singer.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 16/08/2019 21:41

I remember it well - even as a 14 year old it upset me - a friends mum was a huge fan so I knew his music very well.

Visited Graceland in 1994 - an amazingly atmospheric place.

Summerunderway · 16/08/2019 21:44

Been a few things on TV. All recorded to watch tomorrow.
I was only 6 but my da was actually bedridden with grief.
She contracted a virus during that time that apparently may have contributed to an MS similar condition years later.
*as told by dgm not diagnosed by myself - non medic.
Rip The King.

IndianaMoleWoman · 16/08/2019 21:46

He’s not dead, sorry. I’ve definitely seen him in Morrisons in Eccles on more than one occasion.

woodhill · 16/08/2019 21:51

It was pouring with rain like today but much worse when he died

Redglitter · 16/08/2019 21:52

I'm sorry but why the hell would this be in the news. There are actual newsworthy things going on in the world like pp said the Police Officer who was murdered this morning.

The 42nd anniversary of a musicians death means nothing except to his family and die hard fans
