Currently planning fitted wardrobes - four doors. Please tell me what you love about yours, as I’m trying to work out how many drawers/shelves/rails etc. Have you got anything that’s a bit different and has revolutionised your clothes storage?!

I absolutely LOVE my fitted wardrobes.

For doors, definitely avoid full size hinge doors. Ours couldn't be sliding but each door is actually two doors so that they don't take up as much space when open.

Drawers are amazing! I wish I had been able to fit more. We put ours in the middle so there are shelves below for shoes and above for other stuff. If I had had space I would have got the narrow ones too - I had those years ago in a rented flat and there were amazing.

You only need a relatively small rail for fulllength hanging. Most of our hanging space is shorter, leaving space for shoes below and other stuff above. Even dresses etc fit. We have one small width full length hanging space for the few things that need it, which we share.

@BlingLoving Fab thanks! So is each door like a bi-fold door then? Good point about the full-length hanging space, a small section would probably be enough. Do you have a slide out shelf for shoes?

There are just so many possibilities, I don’t want to do it and then wish I’d done it differently.

For doors, definitely avoid full size hinge doors. Definitely. Ours are about 15-18 inches. Which means the cupboards behind them are 30-36 inches which means that things are divided up nicely, easy to keep them in order.

You only need a relatively small rail for fulllength hanging. I have one full length area, and two half lengths above shelves/drawers. 3:1 might be an even better ratio.

I didn't ask for it, but DH fitted lights that come on as you open the door - I rather like them, it's quite cheery. And presumably it is a lot easy than looking for things in the dark, it's just I don't have anything to compare with.

The doors shown in this episode of Getting the Builders in were nice. I liked the way even the dressing table bit was covered:
