The smell from a flick of pages in some magazines, glossy brochures and books (all distinctive!) is a real comfort thing for me.

Am I very strange??? Or does anyone else feel the same?!

I had a teen Saturday job in WHSmith. Newspaper print takes me back to aged 16!

No yanbu.
It's the one thing I miss with a kindle.
I really like the smell of old books.
I wanted to be a librarian at one point😁

The first thing I do with a book when I hold it is fan the pages and smell it.

Glossy magazines and newspaper also very pleasing.

YADNBU
Always good to identify with someone

Oh yes! That's part of the delight of a good book.

A magazine that I subscribe to has recently changed to some kind of recyclable material. I agree totally with what they are doing (environmentally) but I miss the 'glossy' smell...

Ooh yes love a good sniff of a book. I used to smell the kids' annuals at Christmas and it took me straight back to my childhood 😄

Glad I’m not the only one! I also enjoy the different textures of paper - American print novels are particularly displeasing as the paper always seems v flimsy.

I could NEVER move to a kindle. Just love a physical book - the smell, the feel, all part of the book as well as the words.

Biggest YADNBU ever.
I know exactly where you're coming from and love the smell of new books!
May or may not have stood in the middle of Waterstones before and breathed in the smell sniffed-- books before.
Amazing Grin

Oh yes. DD has some picture books with glitter on each page and I take deep lungfuls as I read. God knows what message that's sending to her! It's that mermaid one by Julia donaldson if you're interested 😆

The crack of a new hardback spine when you first open it is beautiful.

DramaAlpaca · 15/08/2019 21:55

Yes, one of life's great pleasures for me. It's one of the reasons why I prefer real books to a kindle, you just don't get that sensory thing with a kindle. The smell, the feel of the book in your hand, being able to flick the pages as you read... love it.

Blankspace4 · 15/08/2019 22:09

@dramaalpaca That’s spot on
