To be unimpressed this happened at nursery

My toddler came home from nursery with red marks from what looks like a hard, twisting grip on her arm above the elbow.

Aibu to be concerned about supervision of us this par for the course/happens too fast to be prevented?

Would attach images but can't.

If it is a bite then they can happen so fast that you don't notice it happening, no matter how watchful you are.

Drogosnextwife · 15/08/2019 22:43

Are you sure she didn't get it with you at home? because like you say, if it was a hit it would probably be starting to turn to a bruise, and if it was a grab mark and it wasn't hard enough to turn to a bruise, the redness would have probably faded by the time you got home.

Purpleartichoke · 15/08/2019 22:45

It doesn’t look like a grab mark. I would definitely believe getting her arm stuck falling from a toy.

Before the photo I was very concerned because marks from grasping would gave had to be from an adult, but this looks like a common kid tumble injury.

Bit harsh and uncalled for.

Mine had marks very similar to that from an unplanned exit from a Little Tikes car - she caught her arm on it as she fell. That's not definitive but I wouldn't rule out the nursery manager's explanation.

Yeah they're little cobras, it's unbelievable how fast they can be. Luckily mine is not a buyer but months ago when she was in the ball pit of a soft play area, a little girl (who must have siblings she does it to) tried to do "tickly under there" to her and she nailed her on the hand in a flash, so fast I didnt even see it until the girl held her tooth marked finger up 😖.

With it being aibu, I was amazed there weren't more comments like that; what they get our if them, I don't know. Do they bow to the imaginary applause in self satisfaction.

They are like cobras and the look on their face when they do it Shock

No matter how good a nursery they are. They can’t see or even stop everything.
In their defence they may not even be aware of it.
I’d just go in tomorrow and have a word. Obviously don’t go in there all guns blazing, mind

Children in the older room are more active and have more outdoor play than the babies so have more opportunities to have accidents
Having accidents is a normal part of childhood
Last week in my nursery we had 10 ranging from a baby crawling in to a door frame to a toddler falling over and grazing her hands
Sometimes we are not aware that a child has a bruise or mark as sometimes they don’t cry or don’t tell us and we can’t watch every child all day
Just be prepared for more accidents as she gets older and starts taking more risks

OneStepSideways · 16/08/2019 07:00

Sounds like an accidental injury, maybe she fell over and didn't tell anyone or another child grabbed her. Or maybe a teacher grabbed her to save her falling/getting her fingers trapped or something?

They wouldn't know about the mark unless it was visible (she had sleeves on) or she cried/told them about it. Of course they shouldn't grab her elbow but sometimes it's an automatic reaction to save a child from worse injury!

My DD gets random bumps and bruises from nursery, occasionally I get asked to sign an accident form but only if staff witnessed it. DD rarely cries when she falls over and she loves climbing/outdoor play on the balance bikes etc so it's not hard to understand how a fall/bump/scrape can go unnoticed! She also hates plasters so will hide any grazes to avoid one!

Tumbleweed101 · 16/08/2019 07:03

Looks like she knocked it or caught it against something. It’s pretty much impossible to stop these kind of things with small children as it takes seconds for them to fall or push one against another especially when looking after several children.
