Not sure if this is just a thing in my area as we had a Tyneside Rocks thing a couple of years ago. But today in Sainsbury's crisps aisle I found a book with this note attached. Was really excited to find it. But I don't do Facebook. My DD is 7 so age wise it's she is similar age to the people who left it.

AIBU to ask if this is a thing nationwide?Because I felt like I should have hidden rocks but I didn't.

Looks as though it's based on the BookCrossing scheme, you don't need to be on FB to join in with BookCrossing. Set your books free!

Its a big thing here in Teesside at the moment. Lots left in parks etc. To get children reading over summer. Its great. They are left.in plastic wallets/sleeves so they don't go soggy.

I think it's taking off in a few areas. I've seen it mentioned in a book group i'm in on facebook, and was added to a local group the other day. Such a lovely idea

HelloyouKant · 14/08/2019 20:56

Yeah we have it down here too, it’s so nice!

MrsLJ2014 · 14/08/2019 21:43

Yes, there's a Northwest group and a Wirral group round by me!

TheCanyon · 14/08/2019 21:57

All over the borders area too.

yesthatstheone · 14/08/2019 22:02

Yes and everyone's getting their knickers in a right old twist - kids upset cos they haven't found a book, people pissed because their book hasn't been found, books being vandalised, books getting wet. I don't think it's encouraging reading at all utterly pointless imo.

kitk · 14/08/2019 22:05

It's mega taking off in my city at no

BikeRunSki · 14/08/2019 22:12

Painted rocks is big in my neck of the woods (Barnsley/Huddersfield/Wakefield), and there was a “Look for Book” post earlier this week. Similar idea to bookcrossing, as pp have said..

Homemadearmy · 14/08/2019 22:18

Look for a book has just taken off in my area in the last couple of days too

ConorMcGregorsChin · 15/08/2019 08:45

Thanks for the replies all. DD has read it already and wants to hide it at the airport when we go on hols just over a week.

I’m not sure a hidden parcel would last long at an airport before causing a security alert.

Coulddowithanap · 15/08/2019 09:44

It's just starting in my local area too. I think it's a lovely idea.

BeanBag7 · 15/08/2019 09:50

I wouldnt hide it at the airport. It will be tidied up and binned pretty swiftly or sent to lost property or something. There aren't really hidden places in airports for good reason!
