Confused about job application.

Hi everyone.

I applied for a job and had an interview. I thought I didn't do well but got a phone call for reference checks the next day.

My colleague did my reference check (I could hear her) and said that the person was really enthusiastic on the phone.

I got a call the next week saying it was between 2 candidates and could I complete a report to check my writing skills and come in for another informal chat with the team.

That was supposed to be today but was cancelled because of a meeting at short notice. They said it would be rescheduled.

I have just seen that they have readvertised the role on the staff intranet for a closing date this Sunday.

It's a bit gutting as I am trying to change industries and this isn't the first time I have been at this stage. I am really struggling in my current job as it's pretty draining.

I am (slowly) coming to terms with the fact that I am not going to be successful- I really wanted the role, but WIBU to email them to ask what is going on it should I just wait for them?

Did they give you a timescale on when you would hear about it being rescheduled? If sounds unprofessional anyway, especially if they have decided to readvertise whilst leaving you in limbo. I would send one maybe not alluding to the fact you have seen it re advertised, but one saying along the lines of still being interested and you look forward to hearing when the next part will be rescheduled for. See what they say.

Thank you for replying.

I tend to a bit of a hot head in these situations and I wondered how to broach it.

I think that is a good middle ground to see what they say.

Onwards and upwards

I think I’d just leave it and focus on my next application. Saying something is tricky as it will be difficult to come across well (easier face to face) and could backfire as in you may have been offered the job but they dislike the ‘feedback’ so go a different way.
Unfortunately unless it’s a very difficult role to fill they have all the power.
Probably not helpful and won’t get you closure on this job.

I agree with PP, I'd ask them for an update. Don't mention you've seen the advertisement. It may be they found out that someone on mat leave wasn't informed about the vacancy so they've had to put it out there again.

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't considered the mat leave thing.

The interviewer has just called me to apologise about missing the meeting and I had done really well with the written report.

So we are now going to have a conference call tomorrow with the rest of the team.

I was too chicken to ask her about the advert but maybe if I don't get it (still being hopeful) I can check it's for the same department. She said that she will let me know if I have the job by Friday.

.....still very confused

There could be more than one job available. Ask them about it and say you’re really keen and should you apply for that one as well?
