To ask Manchester MNers about safe all-night cafes etc.

I have to do something in Manchester which means I will have to stay over night and there seems to be no affordable hotel accommodation left. Are there, in the city centre, a few safe-ish cafes or bars that are open all night? Somewhere I could sit with coffee and a book for a few hours?

Have you checked air bnb or youth hostels. I wouldn't be wanting to hang around all night. Anywhere thats open will be full of either party goers or people who live on the street.

velocitygirl7 · 13/08/2019 23:44

McDonald's is open 24hrs in many cities, could that be an option?

Nousernameforme · 13/08/2019 23:45

And not saying people who live on the street are bad but they can be desperate and are not always the safest to be around if you are on your own at night in a strange city.

helpmeiamatoad · 13/08/2019 23:47

Mcdonalds

gobbynorthernbird · 13/08/2019 23:56

Have you looked at the youth hostel on Liverpool Road? I can't think of anywhere I'd feel safe all night without being in a group (or spending a fair bit of money).

CountryCousin · 13/08/2019 23:56

hattershostels.com/manchester-hilton-chambers/

Have stayed at both locations in Manchester and they’re both excellent.

gobbynorthernbird · 13/08/2019 23:58

The 24 hour McDonalds' in Manchester don't want people staying all night. There's a chance they'll move you on.

ElizabethG81 · 14/08/2019 00:00

Have you looked a bit outside of the city centre for accommodation? Most Premier Inns and similar places are cheaper a bit further out and it wouldn't cost that much in a taxi. I wouldn't fancy sitting all night anywhere in Manchester (or anywhere at all, for that matter).

gobbynorthernbird · 14/08/2019 00:00

I believe Hatters is closing soon for a refurb as it's been bought out.

JonSnowsCloak · 14/08/2019 00:02

What time do u need to be in Manchester till or by? The trams are good and run quite late, could you stay further out? Taxis are fairly reasonable as well

Comefromaway · 14/08/2019 00:07

I can’t think of anywhere I’d feel safe.

I have to take ds to something in Manchester this week and I’ve actually bought my self a cheap ticket to the event so I don’t have to sit in a bar or something until 10pm on my own.

piefacedClique · 14/08/2019 00:08

I occasionally work through the night at my local university library.... could that be an option inManchester? It’s safe, warm, vending machine access, power and quiet places to doze??? My local uni doesn’t require a key card gain access

Yubaba · 14/08/2019 00:11

What about www.couchsurfing.com/

gobbynorthernbird · 14/08/2019 00:14

@Comefromaway there's loads of places that'd be fine at that time of evening.

QuaterMiss · 14/08/2019 00:18

Have you checked the rather swish YHA in Castlefield?

Otherwise, surely not every budget hotel in, say, Salford Quays is fully booked? Very pleasant 15 minute tram ride from the city centre and you can enjoy a stroll along the canal in the morning.

Manchester is stuffed with Premier Inns. Although the most central can’t really be described as budget hotels any more, those a little further out should be considerably cheaper.

No one would advise your proposed plan.

Drpeppered · 14/08/2019 00:21

I can’t think of anywhere that’s open 24 hours that I’d consider ‘safe’ tbh.

The universities in Manchester. all need key card access to their 24 hour buildings.

McDonald’s I imagine will be full of people getting food after a night out. You might be ok at the one on regent road, but that’s not really the city centre.

There used to be a Chinese restaurant in China town that was open until about 6am, but that closed a couple of years ago.

Crazy Pedros is open till 4am? Might be an ok-ish option.

It depends what’s on. We were unfortunate enough to be wanting to stay overnight after a theatre show on the day of Parklife and there really wasn’t a single budget hotel room that night.

howwudufeel · 14/08/2019 00:24

The casinos are open all night but I can’t imagine you wouldn’t stick out. Is there really no hotel available within your budget?

CoughSplutter · 14/08/2019 00:25

SGB come on, you know this isn’t wise. There are more options that staying awake all night in a dodgy McDonalds. Stay further out and get yourself a cheap air b&b / pub room / couch surf / theatre digs...

Queenie8 · 14/08/2019 00:28

Look at apartment hotels. Depending on when it's for, some of them can be around £50 per night at Salford Quays.

Blahblahblahnanana · 14/08/2019 00:29

Get the train to somewhere cheaper for a hotel like in areas such as Huddersfield or Halifax if you live Leeds way.

Drpeppered · 14/08/2019 00:30

Black dog ballroom also open until 4am

x2boys · 14/08/2019 00:37

When do you need to be in Manchester? There a pleanty of nearby towns im sure you could get cheaper accommodation in ,a lot of places are accessible by the tram?

motorcyclenumptiness · 14/08/2019 00:38

Have you tried UniversityRooms? You should be able to get a cheap room for the night in halls.

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/08/2019 00:40

As much as I love Manchester it is not a city I would sit in all night and stay awake. When do you need accommodation?
