I have to do something in Manchester which means I will have to stay over night and there seems to be no affordable hotel accommodation left. Are there, in the city centre, a few safe-ish cafes or bars that are open all night? Somewhere I could sit with coffee and a book for a few hours?

What is your budget? Do you hve access to a car? Try the Premier Inn Manchester Airport Runger Land South or the travelodges in Oldham.

NoMrsLevinson · 14/08/2019 09:54

If you find something you like the look of SGB, post it and we can tell you if the transport links are suitable. What time does your Saturday night event finish?

ReanimatedSGB · 14/08/2019 11:00

That's kind of the final piece of the jigsaw - what time the night market shuts. I am waiting for them to confirm this with me (because if they want to run it through till 6am or something then it's job done, just stay at the event...)
Otherwise I will search local towns and transport. Ooh, I remember staying in Guide Bridge a few years ago in a nice cheap B&B...

I've used this website veggie when I had an early flight from Birmingham. Would be better than a cafe. www.sleepinginairports.net/guides/manchester-airport-guide.htm

DuMondeB · 14/08/2019 12:31

Old Trafford and Sale seem to have Premier Inn/Travelodge rooms around the 105-120 per night that weekend, both on a tram route (Old Trafford is the closest) - taxi from the Village to OT is about £8. Holiday Inn Salford Quays is about the same in a taxi but further to walk from the tram.

There are various premier inn type places near the Trafford Centre available, but no tram out there, so night bus or taxi.

Anywhere open late in town will be hectic as fuck Pride weekend.

ShhhBeQuiet · 15/08/2019 00:38

Air B & B? There looks like a lot of choice? Haven't examined the listings though.

ReanimatedSGB · 15/08/2019 00:57

I have... ethical issues with Air B&B and would rather not do that. I am still waiting for the wretched organisers to confirm the timing as they have rearranged the event and the website is unhelpful.

You can get a room at the holiday inn Express at stockport station for 73 quid . Its then five minutes on the train into Manchester picadilly

I too.

What are they? Is this yet another company I’m going to have to stop using?

You def need to stay somewhere- you’ll be in no state to run a stall on Sunday if you stay up all night!

Is this too expensive?

Travelodge Ashton-under-Lyne is currently £79. Tram runs right past the windows, there's a stop just a short walk in either direction.

Drpeppered · 15/08/2019 10:01

Op is it the Sackville square fair? Because if so it ends at midnight.

heronontoast · 15/08/2019 10:08

There are loads of premier inns in the suburbs of Manchester. There's one at the Trafford Centre for example. It is a very bad idea to hang around Manchester City Centre by yourself at night.

RubbingHimSourly · 15/08/2019 10:15

Definitely stay on the outskirts. The tram runs to Bury etc. I really wouldn't plan on staying up overnight in Manchester, it just isn't a safe place anymore. Its really sad to see how bad its got

CoughSplutter · 15/08/2019 10:17

Have a look on Booking.com. You can get a private room in student accommodation for £30 in Salford - in fact there are tons of options (apartments, hotels, etc) in Salford for £30-40. You can also get a single room in the city centre from £70.

AskMeHow · 15/08/2019 10:20

I second the booking.com option. They will have university halls accomodation, expect it'll be about £45 per night. Or have a look for a YHA - the dorm rooms will be about £20.

ReanimatedSGB · 15/08/2019 12:04

Thank you all so much, there are so many options. I just want the pesky organisers to tell me how long the market runs for, and if they are actually going ahead. They are soooooo vague...

OP posts:
QuaterMiss · 15/08/2019 12:39

So ... You’re travelling to support an event promoting equality - but the organisers won’t give you the information you need in order to plan and arrange a safe trip?

Fascinating.

managedmis · 15/08/2019 12:42

Vague? Really?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 15/08/2019 12:42

Is it the Levensulme market? That's always run 5 - 9pm on the third Saturday of the month.

Jeezypeepers · 15/08/2019 12:49

What are the ethical issues with Air BnB? I’ve never heard of that before Blush

Legomadx2 · 15/08/2019 12:55

Do Air bnb not pay tax or something?

Andromeida59 · 15/08/2019 14:49

Hi @AnchorDownDeepBreath, doubt it's Levenshulme market as it's on tomorrow not next week plus the night markets are typically on the third Friday of every month, not the Saturday.

Drpeppered · 15/08/2019 20:41

@ReanimatedSGB the Sackville square market for pride finishes at midnight

ReanimatedSGB · 15/08/2019 21:12

They are running a trader's market on the Saturday night; it was originally going to be Saturday and Sunday, then it was going to be Friday as well (which was the point I initially withdrew my application for a pitch as that was just too much) and then I got another email saying, Hi, we are just going to do the Saturday night now. So I decided that it might be worth it, because there is another event on the Sunday which I want to do. I have asked them to confirm timings, etc, but... nothing. And, given their past form, I am not sure they are not going to suddenly go, oh actually this isn't going to work so we are not doing it at all...
