To be annoyed at Alexa

DD10 noticed the green light going round on Alexa & asked what the notification was...Alexa said "you can expect a delivery today including Harry Potter Lego."
Did she have to say what was in the delivery? DD10 now desperate to know if its Hagrid's Hut.
No more secret Christmas shopping on Amazon!

Oh no! 🙈 I think you can turn notifications off. Then secret shopping can commence!

Coralfish · 13/08/2019 13:26

But is it Hagrid's Hut???

Howlovely · 13/08/2019 13:27

I said exactly the same thing to my husband the other day. Had the same notification stating what was in the delivery for me. It's completely unnecessary and I can't understand why they think it would be useful. Especially when we get texts/emails about the deliveries too!
Amazon really have made a huge mistake with that function. I wonder if it can be disabled?

Howlovely · 13/08/2019 13:29

Just switched it all off via 'settings' on the Alexa app. Sorry, should've done that before my rant just now!

ChristineBaskets · 13/08/2019 13:29

I agree. Mine boomed out that my delivery of Cystaid tablets were arriving today- they're for the cat but that could have been very embarrassing.

TokyoSushi · 13/08/2019 13:30

But is it Hagrids hut though? Grin

ChristineBaskets · 13/08/2019 13:33

Can someone tell me how to turn it off, I'm in a bad mood and trying to find it on the app for all my Alexas is making me angry.

DrierThanANunsNasty · 13/08/2019 13:35

Ahhh Amazon... I once did a load of Christmas shopping and some bits of it came sans Amazon box - just sent in the box it came in! Ruined a few Christmas surprises and was very odd, but customer service did tell me some stuff is sent like that and is marked as such Confused

My advice would be to stop funding the pig that is Jeff Bezos anyway. I stopped buying from Amazon about 6 months ago and have found some really lovely online stores (sometimes cheaper too!) that make me feel happy when I spend my money... but that’s a rant for a different day Grin

Madfrogs · 13/08/2019 13:37

You need to turn off the description part on the app. Mine now says you are due a delivery today, your order has been delivered etc

FudgeBrownie2019 · 13/08/2019 13:39

Yep just alter your notification settings and it won't happen again.

Whatwaswrongwiththatusername · 13/08/2019 13:41

Settings > notifications > amazon shopping. You can turn the notifications off from there.

Whatwaswrongwiththatusername · 13/08/2019 13:45

You would need to do that for each account attached to it, btw. Ie, if husband also uses it. I still get another family member's notifications on mine, despite living in separate houses now, as we still share the family account, and so that's a little annoying! All Alexas on the family account will get the notifications from anyone using it, so even though mine no longer happen, theirs will still.

Thanks everyone.
