Good god, I respect the OPs right to say that she is against striking but as a strong union member (ex rep) I don't agree with it. I know nothing about socialism, but I do know that if your place of work isn't adhering to reasonable rules, then you should be able to vote to strike to make them more reasonable.

Aitch · 04/08/2007 22:48

PMSL, was just about to post the same thing to u, expat.

expatinscotland · 04/08/2007 22:51

Yes, but UCM, when people aren't getting their bank statements in a timely fashion, or 'important' letters take longer than usual, people get inconvenienced and that's more important than employee rights.

expatinscotland · 04/08/2007 22:52

I'm still wondering, where is lillaura's 'friend' who started the petition?

Did he/she ever show up?

themoon66 · 04/08/2007 22:52

As a trade unionist this thread is making me weep with frustration, so I am going to try hard to stay away now. [sits on hands]

elasticsortinghandstand · 04/08/2007 22:53

Come Out
Come Out
Friend
whereever you are.

no, she aint coming

lillaura123 · 04/08/2007 22:55

becaue i use txt talk which is a modern thing on the internet which is a modern tool doesnt mean u have the right to admittidly take the P**s - it just means that what i lack in intellange and grammer u also lack in social skills u r prooving yourself to be stereotypical - do u think because i cant spell etc as well as you that your better than me or is it my age that bothers u? as it was said b4 that we are all mums - no matter how we spell or talk or type - so why do you insist on pushing or views about me rather than RM - this is a message to all you groupies baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 04/08/2007 22:57

'so why do you insist on pushing or views about me rather than RM - '

Probably for the same reason you insist on starting thread after thread and bump after bump about a topic on which you are clearly ignorant.

lillaura123 · 04/08/2007 22:59

excuse me i apologised for multiple threads and fixed it didnt i?????? respect me for that at least as for bumping u are u not all as guilty of that as me for typing here

Aitch · 04/08/2007 22:59

no kidding, i can't be bothered reading that because you have purposefully written it in such a way as to be unintelligible to most people. that's not communication.

anyway, let's forget about the grammar thing and concentrate on you... what have you learned from this discussion?

should workers lose the right to withdraw their labour if so doing might inconvenience you and your mysterious friend? is that where we were up to?

lillaura123 · 04/08/2007 23:03

i have learnt about the reasons why they feel they need to strike - and a little abiut the history of it - but it hasnt changed my views - but most of all i have learnt that a few people on MN are internet versions of school bullies and that because someones disagrees - they have to find different things to pick at - but guess what i havent be milicious or nasty to any one so i find it very ofending the way some of you have acted and taken the p**s out of me for things that are irrelevant

OP posts:
Aitch · 04/08/2007 23:03

six question marks on one sentence, none on the other...

i never understand this bit about respect everyon, tbh, i think that's very modern. in my day you weren't obliged to show respect to people whose position you not only profoundly disagreed with but who refused to respond to new information that contradicted the reasons for having formed their opinion in the first place.

lisad123 · 04/08/2007 23:06

I dont think people should lose the right to strike, thats their choice, I strongly supported the Firefighters doing it.

I find it a pain that I have to wait ages for post, but would never sign a pertision abou8t it. It deos seem that posties strike more than others or is it that I only notice when it impacts on me

L

expatinscotland · 04/08/2007 23:06

What is relevant is that neither you nor your 'friend' has clearly indicted a valid reason why you feel the need for such a petition - and I'm sorry, but I don't count minor inconveniences as a strong, valid reason for opposing peoples' right to strike for better working conditions as a last resort.

Instead it's all 'sign this' and 'respect me' and a bunch of semi-literate nonsense which as a mother I find a bit frightening when I think of how my children will be educated.

ThePedantifier · 04/08/2007 23:07

Someone fired my semi-colon signal into the sky! I gather I am needed!

Lawks, I think I might be out of my depth here...

lillaura123 · 04/08/2007 23:07

"i never understand this bit about respect everyon, tbh, i think that's very modern. in my day you weren't obliged to show respect to people whose position you not only profoundly disagreed with but who refused to respond to new information that contradicted the reasons for having formed their opinion in the first place. "

i think this prooves a point doesnt it? in my day well im sorry to hear that you dissaproove of it becausse of the way things were! but these are my views on the RM, i respect yours so it would be polite to do the same DUT?

OOC? how has new information contradicted my original POV?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 04/08/2007 23:08

Can you bring PunctuationPrincess and GrammarGuardian with you, Pedant?

NotADragonOfSoup · 04/08/2007 23:08

"I strongly supported the Firefighters doing it"

Right, so you support people striking where their actions can easily cause unnecessary deaths but not where it might cause bank statements to be a little late?

expatinscotland · 04/08/2007 23:09

Better yet, we're going to need a translator here, Pedant.

themoon66 · 04/08/2007 23:09

Do postal workers strike more than anyone else? I've not noticed.

[sits back on hands]

Aitch · 04/08/2007 23:10

lololol, i was joking.

this is still my day, i still live in this world and i still worry about what kind of world it is becoming for my child to grow up in now that the education system has been chipped away to such an extent that people do not value their hard-won rights.

ThePedantifier · 04/08/2007 23:10

Quite frankly, I think we need the entire Fabulous Five.

I think GrammarGuardian is fighting the TxtMnstr at the moment, but I will see what I can do!

lisad123 · 04/08/2007 23:11

The fire fighter did everything they could to ensure no lifes were lost, and they have only had one strike for as long as i can rememeber. I didnt say I didnt support the postmen at all, I said i found it a pain!
My dad was a postie for 14 years.
