Hi all,

Just heard about woodcraft, it sounds really good but can’t quite figure out what it is or how it works Blush

Has anyone tried it?

My kids are under 6 btw, if that makes a difference. Just looking for any experience..

If you mean the Woodcraft Folk, it was formed as a less militaristic alternative to scouts and guides. IME it's more hippy and alternative than guides and scouts etc- they do lots of co-operative games and camping. My DH was in it for years as a member and then a leader - he lived in quite an alternative place that supported a group. There aren't any where we live now!

My kids went. We really enjoyed it, it had a lovely ethos and was really inclusive.

I don't think it was very different from cubs or brownies really. The session started with circle time and maybe a circle game or a topic to talk about. Then some running about games, then a craft activity (often something quite eco-friendly that encouraged recycling), then a snack, then a free play time with maybe some more organised games, and end with circle time.

In our group the parents stayed and all helped with the session. We would take turns to organise a craft. There was a cost, something like £2.50 a session I think.

It was all quite hippyish and nice, with a strong emphasis on saving the planet and being kind to each other.
