ESA do you need to reply after a year?

A friend is in receipt of esa and her letter when she qualified said that it would end in September. However, she is very unlikely to be able to work again and if it does become possible it won’t be for several years. She’s panicking about managing without esa (lives alone) but I don’t think this sounds right. Is it just a case of reapplying after a year? Or does it end. Thanks.

Bump. Does anyone know? Google not really telling me much.

If her ESA runs out she will have to either apply for pip and universal credit or jobseekers but may have to prove to them that she is unable to work to get it . ESA is for a standardized amount of time

I don’t know. DD gets income ESA, she’s in the support group. After 3 years, I had to fill the forms in again - it was renewed. It certainly doesn’t end after a year in her case!

She is in the support group. She already gets pip but jobseekers won’t be appropriate as she won’t be able to work for a while. Her health problems are extreme so esa can see that she can’t work. Hopefully it’s just a case of reapplying.
