I was in Germany recently and bumped into someone I used to work with in India.

Singapore. Getting off our hotel shuttle bus on Orchard Road. Waiting to get on was someone I used to work with in Scunthorpe.

Hannah9176 · 27/06/2020 02:06

Friend from school moved to Australia 10 year ago, bumped into him in a casino in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve.

Weenurse · 27/06/2020 02:13

Went to Darwin for wedding. Went to casino after wedding, DB standing outside casino.
Had not seen him in over a year as we live in different states. He was in Darwin for athletics carnival with his students.

Bar in St Omer, bumped into someone from a French class in Knutsford.

I think I’ve bumped into someone I know nearly every time I’ve been to Alton towers (I live in Bucks so not local)

Strangest one for me was chatting to a woman in the pool In Corfu. Summer 2009.. Turns out she was a police woman in the area I went to college a few years prior to my holiday.

We were chatting away, and the conversation somehow turned to her job and the kinds of things she witnessed. Turns out she was the first person on the scene to my friend who had committed suicide a couple of years previously.

The most random meet, in the most random place, but even now 11 years on, so glad that my path crossed hers!

The bus (not one I travelled on frequently). Someone I hadn't spoken to in 8 years who I worked with in a different city.

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/06/2020 03:58

In a youth hostel, in Pertb, Australia, someone tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I was Brillo, who he'd known at Uni 3 years previously!

I met an old school friend In a tea room on the trek to Base Camp, Everest.

I also met the actor who played Martin Platt, on the same trip.

That was a bit of a surprise.

weepingwillow22 · 27/06/2020 04:25

Up a mountain in Nepal! Bumped into a friend from my home town in UK.

weepingwillow22 · 27/06/2020 04:27

Interesting cross post nopoo, it wasn't you though as it was Annapurna not Everest!

portocristo · 27/06/2020 07:55

In Turkey spotted a couple we know on a boat trip, (we were on the beach) when we saw them in the UK they were gob smacked when we asked how was their boat trip 😂

BikeRunSki · 27/06/2020 07:59

When I was 14, I met my head of year on w gondola in Venice. Both on holiday from the U.K.
I met my brother’s best friend in a bar in Chamonix, and my cousin in a Thai restaurant in Fort William (I live in Yorkshire. The other people involved all lives in the S if England).

Mrhodgeymaheg · 27/06/2020 08:02

Not that random, but while I was at school, I took a day trip to London and bumped into a guy in my year in Hamleys. I assumed he was on our coach and he wasn't.

ifonly4 · 27/06/2020 08:02

I was in holiday in Devon. We looked at the menu in a cafe window then walked on. An elderly person came out of the cafe after us. She recognised me after many years, and was in the cafe with my Nan, who hadn't seen me for years as my parents and her weren't speaking.

Herecomethehotstepper · 27/06/2020 08:06

Went to get my nipples pierced and the piercer was my childhood bully Confused

zafferana · 27/06/2020 08:10

Walking down The Strip in Las Vegas - bumped into a girl who used to be in my class at school.

Throughabushbackwards · 27/06/2020 08:12

Aged 8, family bumped into the family who lived across the street on an island in Fiji. We barely knew them beforehand but became friends afterwards.

Bebbanburger · 27/06/2020 08:13

We've had quite a few 'small world' conversations with people we've bumped into on holiday.
My most recent one was at work. Our office has got a big glass window. I heard an Irish accent and looked up and saw my ex from 25 years ago stood outside. I moved a couple of hours drive away and never saw him again after we split up so he wouldn't have known I live here. I would have gone out to say hello, but he was with his wife, who he left me for all those years ago. Annoyingly he has aged well Smile

When I was born (2 months early, nearly 50 years ago), DM became friendly with another lady on the ward who’d had twins. The mums were both in for a couple of weeks, but did not stay in touch. 16 years later, on the other side of London, a new girl came into the 6th form of my school. She was one half of twins. Our mums recognised each other at the first parents’ meeting!

brainstories568 · 27/06/2020 08:26

Friend from uni on the Great Wall of China and then again about month later at a bar in UB, Mongolia. I also stayed in the same hostel dorm as someone from college in Laos.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 27/06/2020 08:30

Ran into a former colleague on the subway in Hong Kong. Always see random people I know at Geneva airport, but I reckon that's because it's just that sort of place, as Hong Kong used to be and I imagine Dubai is now.

zafferana · 27/06/2020 08:33

Sat at the bar of Cheesecake Factory in Waikiki, Hawaii while on our honeymoon and were served by the barman, who was a chatty, friendly guy. Two years later, we went to a Cheesecake Factory in Pittsburgh (only the second time we'd ever been in a Cheesecake Factory), and the same guy was serving behind the bar!

zafferana · 27/06/2020 08:36

Two more:

DH and his DSis bumped into each other on the street in NYC. He lived there, but she almost never went into the city and it was total coincidence.

Boarding a flight last Oct half-term to go and visit MIL and bumped into a boy who is in DS1's class at school.

cptartapp · 27/06/2020 08:40

On the coach to our hotel in Greece, we stopped at traffic lights and saw DS school secretary sat having drinks down a side street.
