Annoying things I know I do...

... but can't seem to stop. I know IBU but still do it! It's relatively minor stuff but I even annoy myself with my annoyingness Grin

  • Walking in the middle of the pavement. Yeah I'm THAT person! I have to consciously check myself and move to the left so that some poor soul isn't stuck behind me, but I naturally gravitate to bang in the middle.
  • When washing up, I ALWAYS forget some solitary cup or glass, despite doing a sweep of the room(s) and collecting everything first. The rogue cup isn't even hidden away, normally in plain sight just sitting there laughing at me after I've finished and cleaned the sink. Every. Time.
  • Every time I take something out of a cupboard or drawer, I leave it open. I have no idea why and it drives me nuts! And if I take something out, I'll end up leaving it on the side instead of putting it away Confused So I'll reach up, take coffee out of cupboard, leave cupboard open, put coffee in mug, leave coffee jar on side. My kitchen is tiny and the place will look like a bomb's hit it after an hour, simply by my absent minded laziness. It takes literally a second to put coffee back and close the cupboard - whyyyy do I do this?!

I'm a terrible person. Please tell me I'm not the only one with annoying habits.

This is probably why I am single and live alone

I constantly wipe counter tops down. I also change the lights which are on in the kitchen; OH puts on the central row of lights, I change it so the 2 outer rows are on which are above the counters so you can see what you're doing!

We have switches at both ends of the kitchen 😆

I kick my shoes off & leave them where they land. Drives DD up the wall especially at 7:30am during the school holidays when I wake her to ask where my grey/navy/tan/leopard/insert other colours as required shoes are but she always knows because she tidies them up every day Blush

CrazylazyJane · 12/08/2019 20:20

I sing constantly... and most of the time, the wrong words or my own unique 'musical arrangements'.

I know it drives DP up the wall. I can see how annoying it is as my mother does it as well and it drives me up the wall. But can I stop? Not for life or death.

DP thinks we have a button in our backsides which becomes depressed whenever my DM or I stand up and begin to sing Grin

Blueandredandblue · 12/08/2019 20:23

If I'm not driving and getting a lift, I sit there cringing.

Blueandredandblue · 12/08/2019 20:26

I lick my spoon while eating soft food like ice cream
I I suck chocolate until it melts in my mouth
I eat crisps sideways, sometimes lick them first
I cut food with a knife and put down the knife and use that same hand to eat with a fork, this drove my last boyfriend bananas and he would never sit opposite me while eating

Stravapalava · 12/08/2019 20:31

I clink my teeth together when I talk. I didn't know I did this until a couple of years ago. I try very hard not to, but it's so hard and I end up getting jaw ache!

peachgreen · 12/08/2019 20:41

I tidy up behind visitors. Like, when they get up from the sofa and leave the room I'll wait behind and straighten the cushions. It must make people feel SO unwelcome when they notice but I can't seem to stop! I also don't wash my toothbrush head enough and it gets all foamy in the glass we keep them in. I clean it every few days but it still drives DH bananas and I don't blame him.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 12/08/2019 22:26

I wipe crumbs straight onto the floor

I do too because I'll usually be sweeping and spray mopping soon after (well, within a day or two at least..) so it's just efficient.

Sparklfairy · 12/08/2019 23:18

I started wiping crumbs on the floor when I got a dog who would clean them up for me grim

The habit stuck. But I no longer have a dog Confused

I pick up litter as I walk, taking care to put cans and bottles in recycling.

NoSauce · 13/08/2019 09:29

I’m a terrible passenger. I sit there flinching and jumping, pressing the imaginary brake, shouting to look out there’s someone pulling out or whatever, I’ll say it’s a 40mph on here and you’re doing 45 or whatever. I lean in when someone’s driving through a gap.

Is that annoying or just a bit of a humblebrag? Wink

PawPawNoodle · 13/08/2019 11:03

I don't just leave wet towels on the floor, I also leave them on the bed too.

My car looks like the inside of a Starbucks recycling bag. This one annoys myself more than others but I'm always just too eager to get out of the car to tidy it.

I open new milk if I'm having cereal and leave the old carton there feeling completely inadequate.

wanderings · 14/08/2019 09:37

@BuzzShitbagBobbly It does annoy those walking with me, because I keep pausing to do it, and if the stuff I pick up is recyclable, I keep carrying it! Also people say to me "aren't you worried about catching something?".

Also, this picture is the solution for terrible passengers, I've been known to offer it to my DH. Wink

Another interrupter here Blush

DH has successfully trained me to shut kitchen cupboards though it only took him 15 years of marriage

Pfft. Tell them they could do with catching your good habit!
