Ovulation pain

I have suffered horrendous ovulation pains since starting at age 12. Luckily my periods have always been completely pain free, but the ovulation pain has often been quite debilitating. However it was always really short lived (a few hours, never more than a day). This month I have had terrible pains for 4 days! WTF is this? I am getting old (45) is this to do with menopause? Is my body getting rid of all those pesky eggs (hopeful) My periods are still exactly the same as they have always been, but this prolonged pain is new and very unwelcome. What might be going on?

Hi OP

I’m finding the same. I never really noticed ovulation pain in the past but for the last year or so I’ve been having horrible dragging cramps, with frequent sharp pain that makes me dizzy, and I need to sit down. It lasts for 2-4 days around ovulation. I’m 47 now and probably pre menopausal. I’ve read around and yes it seems to be associated with changing hormone levels as we approach menopause. I take ibuprofen regularly and curl up with a hot water bottle.

There are a lot of changes in perimenopause but 4 days of pain mid cycle seems a lot. You shouldn't really ignore any changes so I would get it checked out just to be on the safe side.
