Following on from a (very late-to-the-party) discussion about this year's Glasto with some friends over dinner tonight, where we all decided Lauryn Hill was an absolute let down, who is the worst performer or group you've ever seen live? Especially thinking of people you really liked who let you down here, not just "was dragged to see Take That with DSis and they were shite" Grin

If you're not much of a music fan I suppose this stretches to comedians, actors, poets...anyone who gets up on stage and does a turn.

Ihavebrillohair yes it was one direction at Murrayfield

NannyKasey · 14/08/2019 19:17

Paul Weller, wouldn't play any Jam songs, support was Noel Gallagher (yes him) and he was great, played 'Don't Look Back in Anger' so was happy. Weller was rubbish though Sad

In the last year I've been to some really fantastic gigs (tbf I'm quite picky what I go to now), namely Soft Cell at the O2, 10cc, Midge Ure, From The Jam (acoustic), Andy Black (yes I know, seriously inappropriate crush on him) and Tom Jones (always brilliant seen him loads)

Rush are fab and I won't hear anything against them

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/08/2019 19:27

@Sassy, I was there too.
It was clear they weren't happy.
I saw them at the Hydro the following year once Zayne had left and it was brilliant.

haverhill · 14/08/2019 19:27

I saw Primal Scream aeons ago, long before their Loaded days. They were good but I was really shocked at the lyrics to one of their songs! Grin They were RUDE.
Worst comedy was Shaun Hughes. Not terrible, just mediocre.
Best gig was probably The Beastie Boys. So much energy.

trockodile · 14/08/2019 19:39

I saw 1D a few times and they were by far the best in an Arena, rather than a stadium. However considering they were teenagers for the majority of that time, they were ridiculously overworked and undersupported. They performed something like 400 concerts in 4 years, plus tv appearances, recording, press, publicity etc. I’m not surprised they were a bit lack lustre at times and underwhelming at times. The band (and the fans) were really taken advantage of much of the time imo.

LaBrujaPiruja · 14/08/2019 19:47

The Corrs, 15-18 years ago.

I was so bad i was embarrassed

Lou0390 · 14/08/2019 19:54

Worst comedy: Ross Noble, so unfunny
Worst Band: Hard- Fi, out of time, bored, just awful

LivingDeadGirlUK · 14/08/2019 20:13

@ReanimatedSGB think I was at that gig too, didn"t he stick the mic stand up his arse? Metallica headlined but someone accidentaly punched me in the face and gave me a nosebleed for the entire set.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 14/08/2019 20:15

Guns and Roses headlining Download, so bad there was a riot!

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/08/2019 21:48

@trockodile.
I saw Harry on his solo tour and he was absolutely brilliant, I'm a huge fan and paid a small fortune for the ticket for my 40th and he didn't let me down.

GabsAlot · 14/08/2019 22:56

I liked sarah millican think it was called outsider tour was very funny

alibongo5 · 14/08/2019 23:28

@Mydietstartstomorrow Oasis. Their last ever gig, in Cardiff. Utter shite.

Almost certain their last gig was V in Stafford. They were booked for both Stafford on the Saturday and Chelmsford on the Sunday. They played Stafford then had a huge row backstage (well, they nearly did on stage too!) and then split up and didn't play Chelmsford on the Sunday. And have never played again together since.

(Have just googled it, and I'm right, the V festival appearance was their last.)

Angrywife · 15/08/2019 00:28

Bon Jovi !!
Although it was an outdoor gig and I suspect the poor acoustics were as much to blame as they were for it being crap.

Pinkarsedfly · 15/08/2019 02:27

Loving the Gary Numan love. He was my first-ever gig! My big brother took me to see him at Hull City Hall in 1989.

The place was almost empty, and he gave it his absolute all, as if he was playing a packed stadium.

I loved it, and went to see him twice more over the following few years. I’m really glad he’s had a resurgence lately.

Piglet89 · 15/08/2019 04:03

@WeShouldOpenABar I second Dylan Moran. DH and I Saw him at Hammersmith Apollo last year and he was basically paying the bills; set felt really short, hackneyed material and it was obvious he has very little interest in being there. Disappointing.

covetingthepreciousthings · 15/08/2019 07:56

Was anyone else at the Milton Keynes Bowl for Greenday in June 2005? Just wondered if anyone else had as miserable time as me Sad

The actual performances were fine, but would have been more enjoyable had the crowd not been so awful. It was a boiling hot day & so many people were fainting in the middle of the crowd & people were just standing on them. There was dads that had taken their young daughters who were just in tears. I got kicked in the face and then by about 2 songs in had to be pulled over the barrier by staff because I thought I was going to be squashed to death by the crowds. Never had an experience like it, the staff then wouldn't let me walk round to try grab my cousin to let him know I'd been pulled over, as I didn't want to be separated from him as we were miles away from home.

It then took over an hour to get out of the bowl & our coach back up to Leeds had left without us Sad

Is it usually like that at the Bowl? I'll stick to arenas from now Grin

LivingDeadGirlUK · 15/08/2019 08:17

@covetingthepreciousthings I have done 3 events at the bowl although first 2 were in the 90's and I really like the venue. Foo Fighters 7 or 8 years ago was a cracking gig. I dont think my above mentioned punch in the face was malicious just an accident with the crowds being great otherwise.

Veggielioness · 15/08/2019 08:50

@covetingthepreciousthings I was there! I actually took my 5 year old with me as well! We stayed on the embankment with lots of other families, away from the mayhem I suppose, and had an absolutely wonderful time dancing and singing with everyone there. One of the best memories ever!

nornironrock · 15/08/2019 09:01

@piglet89 and others... I saw Dylan Moran around the same time, and thought he was superb... funny how experiences can be different. Smaller venue may have played a part.

Worst gig for me would be Iron Maiden around a year or so ago. Really poor sound engineering left vocals far too quiet.

Best gig - Placebo. Wow.

DGRossetti · 15/08/2019 10:07

Arguably that is the persona of "the comedian Dylan Moran" (© Stewart Lee Grin).

RoseAdagio · 15/08/2019 11:59

James Brown warming up for the Chilli Peppers was rubbish. I wanted him to do all the high notes but it was the backing singers and horns doing all the work. He would just occasionally say "ladies and gentlemen I feel like a sex machine" and everyone went mad. Talk about trading on past glories. The other warm up act though was someone called Chicks On Speed who were utterly dire and got booed off. They might be the worst act ever live for me.

I also saw Oasis when they hated each other too. By then, Liam sounded like a bad Liam Gallagher tribute act. Far from the worst act I've ever seen but definitely one of the biggest let downs.

MIA would be another candidate. I just didnt get her at all....

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 15/08/2019 14:14

@covetingthepreciousthings - yes, I was there with my two (then teenaged) offspring. Like Veggielioness, we stayed on the embankment, and we had a wonderful time - I still think it's the best gig I've ever been to. It did take a long time to get out of the car park, but somebody was playing Dookie on their car stereo with the windows open, and we were all singing along. It was all so good natured.

Although it did take a long time before my DC stopped teasing me for wibbling about seeing Tre Cool in person...

fuzzyduck1 · 15/08/2019 17:04

Gary Glitter was bad.
Sam Fox sounded like a bad karaoke
But Justin bieber at V he was 100% real crap.

mummysandwich · 15/08/2019 17:40

@Namechangedtoprotect I was at that Radiohead gig at Victoria Park.
Sooo disappointing!! Expensive tickets and total arse ache to get there too Angry

covetingthepreciousthings · 15/08/2019 18:22

we stayed on the embankment

I feel like this may have been where we went wrong... Blush
