Following on from a (very late-to-the-party) discussion about this year's Glasto with some friends over dinner tonight, where we all decided Lauryn Hill was an absolute let down, who is the worst performer or group you've ever seen live? Especially thinking of people you really liked who let you down here, not just "was dragged to see Take That with DSis and they were shite" Grin

If you're not much of a music fan I suppose this stretches to comedians, actors, poets...anyone who gets up on stage and does a turn.

Britney Spears at Blackpool

We left halfway through

faw2009 · 12/08/2019 10:26

So sad to hear Bon Jovi wasn't good. I saw them many years ago and they were awesome.

Same for Van Morrison, loved their concert.

PeoniesarePink · 12/08/2019 10:33

Taking our DDs to the Spice Girls back in the day was a painful experience for my bank balance and ears. Jeez they couldn't sing.

The Human League - Phil Oakley was amazing but the girls.... screeching cats. Just awful.

Elton John - way too big an ego, we paid over £200 a ticket and it was so bad we left half an hour before the end.

IrishGal21 · 12/08/2019 10:35

Gary Glitter....

IrishGal21 · 12/08/2019 10:35

^ He was an unexpected warm up act ....not out of choice

jasmine1971 · 12/08/2019 10:36

Tana433 I've seen Hue and Cry and they were - and will be - amazing! And Jason Donovan I've recently seen in Joseph and he is JUST WONDERFUL.

MilletSentToForceIt · 12/08/2019 10:43

Saw Badly Drawn Boy as part of a big charity gig in London.

He was sooo drunk that he could hardly stand, in fact when he first come on we thought it was an hysterically funny opening gambit to his set, but he soon got really nasty and the compare had to stop him part way through and then BDB wouldn’t leave the stage, had to be ‘persuaded’ off!

Best gigs, Bellowhead, saw them early on in small Brighton venue, fantastic, then on their farewell tour in massive London venue equally as good. But best of all, recently saw Steely Dan (well what’s left of them) and it was the best gig ever. Even DH, who can take or leave them, had to admit he had never experienced such amazing sound, it will stay with me forever!

longtompot · 12/08/2019 10:45

@Oysterbabe we saw the Chilis at V festival and we actually left before the end. We loved them as a band, but they were boring on stage, with constant guitar solos at the end of the stage ala Slash from GnR in November Rain video.
We also didn't enjoy The Strokes the same fest but a different year or night. No energy at all. Wish we went with some other friends to watch Groove Armada, but didn't as we didn't really know any of their music.

pictish · 12/08/2019 10:46

Millet - same when `I saw him - had to be removed from the stage as he refused to leave, despite abusing the crowd and being booed off.

He’s not a stable man is he?

Seashell80 · 12/08/2019 10:52

Stereophonics in Cardiff about 03/04 were sooooo boring! I had really looked forward to it but there was no atmosphere at all ☹️
Went to see Justin Timberlake same week and he was amazing!!! I was chaperoning for younger brother and gf and was not expecting it to be that good but I was blown away!

Branleuse · 12/08/2019 10:57

2nd time i saw the pogues was awful. Shane was absolutely fucked. Could only sing maybe every third song and so few teeth, could barely pronounce anything. Very sad. He was practically being held up. People shouldnt do that.too many enabling yes-men.

Some of the bands mentioned here i thought were incredible live. Oasis were amazing even though i was never a big fan. Nine inch nails were one of the best gigs of my life, as was marilyn manson.

Another disappointing one though was kings of Leon. Seen them twice, and terrible sound quality both times

jennymanara · 12/08/2019 10:58

Reginald D Hunter, just awful, unfunny and terrible delivery.
Johnny Vegas, clearly pissed, rambling and wouldn't get off the stage at the end of his "set". People were leaving as they had to catch buses/trains home. He was persuaded off the stage in the end by the compere, but even that took at least 5 minutes.

Sad to hear Jo Brand is bad. I saw her lots of times before she was famous and she was always brilliant back then.
Also saw Meatloaf 35 years ago and he was brilliant then. He had a very powerful voice then.

Ratonastick · 12/08/2019 10:58

Weirdly, Peter Garbriel put on one of the best gigs I ever saw (Up) and one of the most woefully bloody awful gigs I have ever had the misfortune to sit through (Scratch my Back). Go figure.

Knowivedonewrong · 12/08/2019 11:01

A support act for John Newman in Southampton about 5 years ago.
Can't remember her name, but she was shit!

She had a tiny band and sounded dreadful.
This was my first ever concert and I'm in my forties.
I was so worried that John Newman would be shit too.

Needn't of worried. John Newman was amazing!

notacooldad · 12/08/2019 11:05

One of the worse gigs I went to see was Eladtica. I was really looking forward to it and they were popular at the time. I mayas well have sat at home and played my cd, it would have been more interesting. There was no interaction with the audience, in fact there was no acknowledgement of the audience!
This was in the 90s! Last year I said this in a music fb page and a member of the band commented about it. I agree that bands can have their off days!!

Whatsitlike · 12/08/2019 11:07

Allergic, I also saw Rush on that tour and they were poor, first saw them on the Signals tour in 83, what a difference.

All these old bands really should just give up its just pension money anyway,

Whatsitlike · 12/08/2019 11:09

Oh and Pam Am, first time I saw her she was fantastic, 2nd time god awful and dare I say vulgar....

Tana433 · 12/08/2019 11:10

@jasmine1971 Thankyou, im really looking forward to it, it was just a case of "never meet your heroes", I would be so gutted if Hue and Cry weren't as good as I remember them but im sure they will be!

YouTheCat · 12/08/2019 11:10

I've never seen a bad gig and I've been to loads in the past couple of years. I go to lots of free tribute acts and have only seen one that wasn't brilliant.

I'm going to see Eddie Izzard in October in a smallish venue so I hope he's good as he's been on my bucket list for years. Saw Ross Noble last year and he was hilarious.

SistersOfPercy · 12/08/2019 11:14

I've seen the Darkness about 40 times and they have never disappointed me Blush

Fall Out Boy. Twice. I gave them the benefit of the doubt but they were really really awful. It was when Pete Wentz had just signed Panic! At the disco and Panic were on stage before FOB. They blew them away.

Offspring. I was bored by them.

Marilyn Manson. Awful. Really awful. Out of tune, clearly didn't want to be there.

Some of my best would be Metallica, Kiss and a small Feeder gig I wasn't arsed about going to but DH got on the guest list so I grudgingly went. One of the best live bands I've seen and they blew me away.

Rarfy · 12/08/2019 11:20

Kanye West. I was so excited to see him. Going by his music videos and how famous is was I was expecting a massive show, lots of dancers etc. This was the height of his fame before KK. He was shocking. Just Kanye on a stage. Nothing else going on. I mean I loved it, I loved his music but it did not come anywhere close to my expectations.

On the other hand I went to see Pussycat Dolls with my niece who were great and were supported by Lady Gaga before she hit the big time and Neyo. They were all very good. Neyo was amazing, so much so we booked to see him in concert but he cancelled.

RockinHippy · 12/08/2019 11:21

Defoe he Mode in their early days. Admittedly I wasn't a big fan as they were very new & me & friends just happened to be at the club night that they played at.

They were absolutely awful, couldn't sing, couldn't play fir toffee & blamed equipment etc for a bad show that ended with Dave Garnam throwing a toddler tantrum & kicking the speaker as he ran off stage.

I figured they'd be embarrassed, but nope, they were out at the bar within 10 minutes trying to chat me & a couple of friends up & being really cocky & sleazy with it. We all told them to fuck off they were shit. Still gobsmacked that they did as well as they did when I've seen so many far more talented bands crash & burn

RockinHippy · 12/08/2019 11:22

Depeche Mode - FY AutocorrectHmm

PuppyMonkey · 12/08/2019 11:22

Have been quite lucky and can’t remember any completely terrible gigs I’ve been to, but I have to say K T Tunstall playing a smaller festival in Nottingham (Splendour) a few years back was very disappointing. She obviously felt the whole thing was beneath her and played mostly stuff from the new album. Ideal for a festival crowd.Hmm

partypooper40 · 12/08/2019 11:23

The Stone Roses at Wembley a couple of years ago.Bloody terrible. Ian Brown was so out of tune that I wondered if I had misheard the recording.... :(
