To think this is the wrong reaction?

Taking a “self care” day off tomorrow in lieu of a proper holiday this summer - had summer plans but unfortunately they fell through. Chatting to my mother about this whose immediate response was, “Do you have enough holiday days left to do this?!” (Yes, I do, I have twenty days left!!) Aibu to think the only acceptable response is, you work really hard, enjoy your time off, you’ve earnt it Envy

I would have asked her why she's asking you about your holiday time as though you're an imbecile who can't possibly cope without her micromanaging your life.

How old are you? If you are over eighteen it is none of her business. Enjoy your self care day.

Seeingadistance · 12/08/2019 00:09

If I didn’t know she’d been away this summer, I’d have thought you were my sister.

Mildly irritating of your mum to say that, but really, this is an incredibly tiny thing for you to be getting worked up about - is it something you're hyper-sensitive about for some reason? Just say 'Yes, plenty of holiday left' and move on. Not a big deal, really.

HeddaGarbled · 12/08/2019 00:21

I don’t think it’s an unreasonable question, but I suppose the tone is key, whether it was accusatory or just out of interest.

If someone told me they were taking a “self-care” day, I’d laugh.

Mnfirsttimer · 12/08/2019 00:27

I didn’t see my self-care - just a day off to relax... given that I’m not having a summer holiday. It was the question that annoyed me, as if I’m an idiot. But then she does have form for doing that

Is there a backstory? Can't imagine why anyone would get their knickers in a twist over this.
