After reading the aibu thread 'Hamleys demo lady left dd 6 in tears.' I've been reminiscing about my visits to hamleys.
I was very young when i went about 5 years old and around 20 years ago (late 90s early 2000) so my memory is very faded but can anyone remember the haunted stairwell that was there? I seem to remember it only going up two floors. It was decorated to be scary and haunted.
I've been looking for photos all over google but I'm yet to find any.
Does anyone else remember what I am talking about?
Highly doubt it is there now I bet it has changed so much.
I'm sorry if this threat seems pointless it's just one of those memories I'd like to remember more of.

It may help if you said what town/city it was in 😃

SillyMoomin · 12/08/2019 13:39

There’s only one “Hamleys” *Bairns, on regent street in London

I don’t remember a haunted stairwell OP, but I do remember if you came down the back stairs rather than the main ones, they were always a bit dark and claustrophobic - like an afterthought staircase almost. Could that have been it?

Emptyspacex · 12/08/2019 13:39

The main one in London.

Hamleys only had one store until the late eighties, although they have more now. I don't remember the staircase in the London one, sorry OP.

Bookworm4 · 12/08/2019 13:44

There’s a Hamleys in Glasgow 😉

SillyMoomin · 12/08/2019 13:44

Who knew! I stand corrected Grin

CoffeeRunner · 12/08/2019 13:47

We went to Hamleys in Glasgow at Easter. Right up until we saw it, we had no idea there was more than one either Grin.

ChicCroissant · 12/08/2019 13:48

I don't think there are many of them - if you say Hamleys, most people will think of the London store.

I've been in a Hamleys outlet and wasn't impressed.

NoBaggyPants · 12/08/2019 13:48

The Glasgow one only opened ten years ago, so clearly not what the OP was talking about.

Hamleys was my idea of hell even as a child. Can't recall that we stayed long at all!

birdsdestiny · 12/08/2019 13:48

There used to be one in Newcastle I think.

Emptyspacex · 12/08/2019 13:51

Maybe @SillyMoomin but I remember it was decorated to be halloweeny/haunted house. I remember because my dad and uncle made a big thing of me going up it! I cant find any photos on Google.
Im sure it wasn't my vivid imagination.. almost sure!

Only a very brief reference, but yes, it exists: www.shadyoldlady.com/location.php?loc=1185

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 12/08/2019 14:01

Could it have been around Halloween, OP ?
The staircase done up could have been a one off .

Pinkcat231 · 12/08/2019 14:06

Yes! I remember it! Remember being scared then underwhelmed by the naff decorations Grin

Emptyspacex · 12/08/2019 18:26

Oh my god so glad someone else remembers and it wasn't just some weird dream!

I remember it, we use to visit London Hamleys at Christmas time in the early 2000s and walk down the gloomy ghosty stairwell on the way out
