To think my cat isn't coming home [sad]

She hasn't been seen since Thursday evening and, though it's not unusual for her to disappear for a day here and there, this is easily the longest she's ever been away for - we've had her 5 years.

I've called her and had a walk around as well as checking places she occasionally gets stuck in around the house, but nothing and I don't know what else I can do. Cats' Protection recommend putting out treats but my other cat would eat them straight up.

A couple of times I've though I've heard her miaowing (v different sound from the other cat) but couldn't track it down and don't know if I imagined it.

I feel so sad. I got her when exh moved out and she was the first 'bright side' to his going, and am dreading telling ds2.

Pointless post but wondered if anyone had any tales of hope.

Oh you poor thing. It’s horrible when they just disappear. Is she microchipped? She might have wandered into someone’s garage or shed and will suddenly reappear and demolish all the food in the house.

TweezerMay · 11/08/2019 22:46

I’ve owned many cats over the years btw. A couple have wandered off and shown back up but I know that isn’t always the case. Fingers crossed for you.

crazycatgal · 11/08/2019 22:47

Have you posted on local facebook groups? My DCat went missing for days, after posting on facebook someone realised she was a cat who had been in their garden for 3 days and we got her back.

papaver · 11/08/2019 22:49

Have you looked or posted on your local Facebook page - there’s normally loads of lost and found cats on ours. Keeping fingers crossed for you. Awful not knowing where they have gone but still relatively early days so don’t give up hope.

sweetkitty · 11/08/2019 22:49

Don’t give up hope yet OP many a cat has been missing for a week and wandered in as if nothing is amiss demanding food.

Jemima232 · 11/08/2019 22:51

One of mine went for four days once then reappeared.

I hope yours does too.

Scruffalicious · 11/08/2019 22:52

My gran's cat went missing for 3 weeks and eventually rocked up with a broken leg. They do come home if they can!

Magicmonster · 11/08/2019 22:52

Don’t give up hope yet. My cat once went missing for 3-4 months. To be fair she did escape a carry case away from home - so she didn’t go missing from home - but we definitely thought she was gone for good. Turned up a mile or so away 3-4 months later looking very thin but got reunited with us and lived a very happy and pampered couple of years back at home.

Pee in a glass and leave it by the back door. The scent is said to travel bring them back*

*promise I'm not a pee troll

Our cat went for a wander, had never done so before, I felt helpless and hopeless and so sad. Then 10 days after she had gone at about 10pm one evening she just walked in through the cat flap...a bit thinner and hungry. I didn't feel like there was any hope of her returning.... I hope this gives you a bit of hope, although when people were telling me all their stories of returning cats, in some cases months after going missing, I just didn't think it could happen to ours....I was wrong. Take care. It's horrible time and hopefully happy news soon.

Thanks for replies. FB is a good call - I only use it to store photos but I'll try and see if I can find a local group. I wish she'd just walk in with her tail in the air and a face on...

Litter tray and contents of hoover outside
Flyers (I did about 400 houses when mine vanished for 8 days)
Local FB groups and next door app if your area have it (search for lost cats X town and there's usually a few)
Harvey's army group on FB
Flyer in local shops/notice boards
Register on dog lost (it covers cats too)
Check with local vets and ask them to register her as lost
Local council in case involved in RTC
Is she chipped? Notify microchip company

Csleeptime · 11/08/2019 23:05

Have you also called local vets, rspca etc incase she's been taken in injured or lost. Do you live in the countryside as harvest is going on could have been scared by a combine and bolted. Have you knocked on neighbours and asked them.to check garage, sheds etc. We had one found in a neighbour's house and one found in a neighbour's barn several miles away and had to go collect him!

Ilovesweatybollocks · 12/08/2019 01:20

I hope you find her, don't give up as it's early days. She could be locked in a shed or garage and the owner may have gone on holiday without realising

Jemima232 · 12/08/2019 16:38

Has she come home yet?

I really hope so.

PullingMySocksUp · 12/08/2019 16:40

I’d knock on neighbours doors and ask them the check their garages and sheds.

Put posters up.

Ask a rescue charity if you can borrow a cat trap.

Igneococcus · 12/08/2019 16:58

We returned a cat to its owners about three weeks after she went missing and about a week after she showed up, starving, in our garden.
She was 21 years old, had a heart murmur and a thryroid issue (we took her to the vet). I posted on the local animal charity FB site and put posters up at the local bus stop, lamp posts and the corner shop in the next village (which is where one of their neighbours spotted it). Her owners lived two miles from us and they had put posters up closer to their house thinking she can't have got far considering her age and health issues. They'd only moved into the area a few weeks earlier and didn't know about the animal charity, so didn't check their FB page. When they picked her up everybody was in tears, the couple and my dc. They sent a thank you letter with a 50 pound note a few days later which we spent on adopting a ginger kitten from the animal charity.
Don't give up hope yet. I hope you'll find her.
