How do you pronounce ‘AIBU?’ in your head?

OP posts:
Ninkaninus · 11/08/2019 15:00

Wuh tuh fuh is just all kinds of wrong so I hope no one says that!!! (Although having said that I guess there’s really no reason to not say the letter sounds rather than their names when it’s just in your head...)

pigsDOfly · 11/08/2019 15:07

@VenusTiger Absolutely NUB.

ItProtectsMyHead · 11/08/2019 15:10

In my head it's eh-boo

Oysterbabe · 11/08/2019 15:11

I pronounce it Am I Being Unreasonable.

Me too.

Geeceebee · 11/08/2019 15:14

I’m obviously a bit odd, as I read it as ‘am I be u’!

ClemDanFango · 11/08/2019 15:14

👁 boo

Silvercatowner · 11/08/2019 15:14

I pronounce it Am I Being Unreasonable

Me too. This thread is weird.

Masketti · 11/08/2019 15:20

Eye - boo

thecatneuterer · 11/08/2019 15:32

Eh-boo

Constance1234 · 11/08/2019 15:35

Eye-boo!

thecatneuterer · 11/08/2019 15:35

I'm surprised there are so many aye-boos. 'ai' normally makes an eh sounds, as in rain, gait, maid.

What are examples of words where 'ai' makes an 'eye' sound please?

Ninkaninus · 11/08/2019 15:40

Aisle.

Ninkaninus · 11/08/2019 15:42

I think I got stuck with the eye pronounciation because it mirrors the ‘I’ sound when spoken in full. That’s the only explanation I can come up with as otherwise ai as in rain is the most common by far.

thecatneuterer · 11/08/2019 15:45

Oh yes - aisle - I knew there had to be one. Any more?

Orchidflower1 · 11/08/2019 15:47

Am I being unreasonable - full thing in my head always!

AGnu · 11/08/2019 16:06

Yup, full sentence here too. I think the only ones I do shorten are lol, rofl roffle, omg oh-em-gee, & wtf double-u-tee-eff.

Stravapalava · 11/08/2019 16:13

Eye boo

Bunnybigears · 11/08/2019 16:17

Eye boo

DramaAlpaca · 11/08/2019 16:20

Ay-eye-bee-you in my head.

Am I Being Unreasonable if I say it out loud.

cranstonmanor · 11/08/2019 16:24

I pronounce it Am I Being Unreasonable.

Me too. It wouldn't have occured to me to ptonounce it au-boo or whatever.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 11/08/2019 16:25

Ay-boo. Can't help myself. Occasionally have to stop myself using ay-boo as a turn of phrase! Blush

NCB2019 · 11/08/2019 16:38

@thefemaleJoshLyman

Me too! I have been know to mutter 'lol' as a word when something is mildly amusing but not actually laugh out loud funny too. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MarkRonsonsMother · 11/08/2019 16:40
