How do you pronounce ‘AIBU?’ in your head?

OP posts:
Ninkaninus · 11/08/2019 13:11

How do you not pronounce it? Surely you say something in your head when you read it, or is it just a blank space of nothingness?

vampirethriller · 11/08/2019 13:12

CoffeeRunner · 11/08/2019 13:16

Am I Being Unreasonable.

Although I don’t think I actually say it out loud that often!

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 11/08/2019 13:19

I'm with those who don't! I mean, I read thread titles. I think I just get to the acronym and take that I understand what it means.

I'd never noticed I did that, and am now a bit weirded out! 😂

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 11/08/2019 13:20

I don't pronounce. My head says the full phrase when I see the acronym.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 11/08/2019 13:22

I pronounce it Am I Being Unreasonable.

Me too!

LizzieMacQueen · 11/08/2019 13:25

Full thing for me too though for DD, DH etc I don't.

NCB2019 · 11/08/2019 13:27

I say the whole thing for every acronym so I can comprehend it Grin

pigsDOfly · 11/08/2019 14:17

Another one who reads it as 'am I being unreasonable'.

But that's only when it's used in a sentence otherwise I don't tend to pronounce it at all. I just read it without thinking of the sound it would make.

I'm all confused now. I keep looking at it but tbh I'm still not getting any sense of a sound in my head.

Hotterthanahotthing · 11/08/2019 14:20

I don't pronounce it,just like I don't with WTF.

incogKNEEto · 11/08/2019 14:36

Eye-bu

VenusTiger · 11/08/2019 14:40

@pigsDOfly it just wouldn’t make sense if I read a sentence with a load of sounds Grin

For instance, ‘wtf is this thing?’ I read as full, otherwise it the what the fuck carries no bearing at all and loses its meaning. ‘Wut-fu is this thing?’ would be ridiculous Grin

Ninkaninus · 11/08/2019 14:53

‘What the fuck’ is quicker and easier to say in full than it’s acronym, so I’d never take the time to say the individual letter names for w t f. Not the case with AIBU, so I don’t know why I use the acronym for the title only and otherwise say each word...obviously my laziness is variable.

pigsDOfly · 11/08/2019 14:53

@VenusTiger

Well yes, that's my point. In a sentence I say it in full in my head but when I see it at the top of the page I don't pronounce it as anything.

I would assume most people would pronounce it in full in a sentence.

Scruffalicious · 11/08/2019 14:56

I think I'm faulty. My brain goes 'ah-mah-bah-ru'.

VenusTiger · 11/08/2019 14:56

@pigsDOfly, yes. So we’re NBU then Grin

Scruffalicious · 11/08/2019 14:57

Ninkaninus I suppose it depends on whether you say 'double-yoo tee eff' or 'wuhtuhfuh'.

Sorrysorrysosorry · 11/08/2019 14:58

I pronounce it Am I Being Unreasonable.

Me too!
