Summer hols day out, theatre and hamleys.

Having fun trying all the toys on display and v small budget to buy a toy.

Older dd goes to lady for hand tattoo. I asked younger if she wanted one she was shy and said no. However once older has one she wants one. So she gets in position and very curtly lady says 'no. Its not a freebie for all children it's a demo. I can't do another child' no smiles, no kindness and she looked as hard as nails as dd face crumpled and starts to cry.

Not a big cry! In the past they have always dine both dc, in hamleys and harrods.
And we have actually brought the set into the past but it's the fun and part of the toy shop experience to have something done there!

Not the experience I expected from hamleys of all places. Or was she right!

And your “clueless about selling” remark is a reach, as well. She had op sussed for a chancer. She’s probably more clued up than you are.

Sb74 · 13/08/2019 19:59

Really? I’ve been highly successful in a professional sales role for over 15 years and have a masters degree in marketing plus an MBA. So pretty clued up on selling. Good sales people do not piss customers off. Ever. Relationships are king in sales. The op mentioned at some point that no other kids were around. Keep up!!

Sb74 · 13/08/2019 20:00

... well a number of sales and manager roles. Not that it’s your business.

HeadintheiClouds · 13/08/2019 20:02

She may have mentioned it in a drip feed later on, but the original op says got in position, I took that to mean got in line.
Your sales experience I can’t comment on, of course, I’m sure you’re very successful indeed.

Sb74 · 13/08/2019 20:02

So head in the clouds- what are your credentials in selling? I can imagine with your amazing attitude you’d be great at it 🤣

Sb74 · 13/08/2019 20:03

I am very good at selling. In particular building relationships with customers who then influence other customers views of me. The tattoo lady should take note!!!

HeadintheiClouds · 13/08/2019 20:04

Oh, x post. I missed “not that it’s your business” Grin. It certainly isn’t, but then I didn’t actually ask!
I hope you’re not this snappy with your customers 🤣

Sb74 · 13/08/2019 20:05

No because my customers don’t talk crap... most of the time.

HeadintheiClouds · 13/08/2019 20:05

I’ve never worked in retail. You’ve probably guessed.

HeadintheiClouds · 13/08/2019 20:06

But you do, a lot of the time.

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/08/2019 20:22

@Sb74
Love the assumptions. 😂😂😂
No I don’t.
I worked in head office. International field marketing agency many moons ago. I didn’t work in the field.

Kazooboohoo · 13/08/2019 22:04

You may be really good at sales in your field based on good customer relationships but not every company works like that.

Look at Aberdeen Angus. Lousy, overpriced food, rotten customer service. But all they need is every first-time tourist to London to eat there once and they're in profit, even if none of them ever come back.

Similar with Hanley's. Don't dish out multiple demos to CFs who clearly aren't there to buy anything, focus on tourists and those who look as if they're there to buy.

rohilda · 13/08/2019 23:30

Oh my gosh!! I actually cannot believe that I am reading a thread about this.
I WAS THERE!
I was literally there last week when I saw you with two children try to get a free tattoo in Hamleys. It might be that you're someone else who's had a similar experience but by the sounds of it from your posts - I think YOU @Bornfreebutinbiscuits are that lady! I'm actually so shocked at this post.
You have absolutely no shame to come on here and post a thread about this! I was literally standing in line behind you as this whole scenario unfolded.
The demo lady wasn't even a lady - she looked like a child doing a summer job. You were so rude, even as she was doing your first daughters hand! I cannot stress enough how sweet this demo girl was even when you were arguing with her. She looked like a 15 year-old!!
You nearly brought her to tears when you came back swearing, and shame on you for using such disgusting language in front of my 10 year-old son. The other mother next to you actually spoke with the supervisor afterwards just to say that you were so horrific and that the demo girl wasn't the one who made your daughter cry!! You caused a huge scene and then your daughter cried!
OMG - there is actually no way that this is happening! I'm so shocked to come across this thread.

rohilda · 13/08/2019 23:39

I actually don't know what to say! I'm so shocked by peoples responses calling this child a bitch!! You're so unfathomably disgusting!
You're actually discussing this girls selling skills when you should instead evaluate your decency! She clearly wasn't that great of a salesman because she couldn't handle conflict resolution, but oh my gosh, she was probably just a child as most of the demonstrators are.

And shame on @Bornfreebutinbiscuits! You swore so many times in a children's toy shop over your daughter not getting a free tattoo! I'm so shocked by all of this! You call yourself a 'mother' and yet you would do this to someone else's daughter. She was petrified after you stormed off... and returned to swear some more... and then stormed off again swearing in English and God knows what language!

MrsPworkingmummy · 13/08/2019 23:41

@Bornfreebutinbiscuits Well well... The post above certainly tells a different side of your story. Shame on you!

HeadintheiClouds · 14/08/2019 00:05

Well, well, well...interesting 😲

Lumene · 14/08/2019 00:49

Rohilda are you the sales person? Very odd thread this.

HeadintheiClouds · 14/08/2019 00:52

I’m now awaiting a “deleted for privacy reasons, op has been recognised in real life” message, haha 🤣
What a denouement, classic.

CarolDanvers · 14/08/2019 00:53

Grin Well well... The post above certainly tells a different side of your story. Shame on you!

Oh come on! If you believe that you'll believe anything.

And all the demonstrators are "children"? Utter poppycock!
