Biggest Shithole in the UK

Am retiring soon so want to relocate away from the rat race but everywhere I consider away from the Home Counties seems to be regarded as a dump. Money goes further away from the SE, I thought about Norfolk which is within reasonable distance of civilisation but my friends think that it is backwards/racist. Is it true that Lincs/Cambs/Norfolk is best avoided. AIBU to move?

Prince William loves Norfolk. I lived there for a time as a small child and loved it.

I love it here as well, we got Cleveland Hills on our doorstep as well as the biggest hospital in Europe (James Cook)

So much cheaper up here compared to where my sister lives in Kent.

I split my time between Norwich and Leeds. Norwich is much more liberal than Leeds, in my opinion.

Sorry meant to say - consider wales as well not just Norfolk. My point being - we needed up somewhere we would NEVER have considered. And we adore it.

Lived in all three counties, originally from London. Norwich and Cambridge are great cities, as is Ely. The only place on the list I can say I would never ever want to live in again, is Lincolnshire.

Harrogate and York are very nice.

You are being completely ridiculous in regarding everywhere outside the Home Counties as ‘a dump’. If anything, the opposite is the case.

If you are looking for ‘civilisation’ outside the South East, I can recommend few places which may be of interest.

3, Skelmersdale, Lancashire

4, Skegness, Lincolnshire

5, Redruth, Cornwall

6, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales

7, Doncaster, South Yorkshire

All are known to be very welcoming and hospitable to patronising, stuck-up Southern incomers who think ‘civilisation’ ends at the M25....

I live in a small fishing town on the northeast northumberland coast - we were voted best highstreet a couple of years ago, we have a beach, marina, harbour area which has just had huge cash injection with new pods which sell things, numerous places to eat and it's getting far too popular imo so don't come here please

Just up the road on the coastline we have some gorgeous scenery and places like Alnmouth, Alnwick, Craster, Rothbury, Seahouses. They 25 minutes the other direction we have Newcastle - so it's the best of both worlds. Love it

Everywhere outside London is exclusively white and full of racists.

The east coast is drier but bitter North Sea winds off the grey North Sea.

The west is milder, but definitely a lot more rain. Almost double in some parts - ie Welsh Borders, Cumbria, etc.

The weather is bad enough in the south east - why go anywhere where it’s goung to be noticeably more freezing / wet. There is no need. It really affect your mood and quality of life, above all else.

LOL. This isn’t my opinion, just what I’ve been told. Visiting Norwich next week but have added Ely & Lincoln to the list.

I grew up in Norfolk. Like most places, it has nice bits and awful bits. Kings Lynn is a complete dump.
Bristol is lovely.

There are racists everywhere. Where I live the posher village areas are more racist than the inner cities.

I've met cunts in nice places, twats in Shitholes, poncy pricks everywhere and snobby middle class wannabes all over.

A town isn't a shithole, a city isn't a dump, a village isn't nice.. there's pockets of all kinds in every town, city and village.

Find a place you're happy, whether it's London, Hull, Lincoln or a field with a cow and a sheep. Wherever your happy, isn't a shithole.
