I live in an area where parking is absolutely terrible. There is not a single stretch of road where cars aren’t parked on one side or the other. And they park fully on the road, so that you can only get one car through at a time on the opposite side of the road, or by a car coming into the other lane if going the other way. (My diagram is NOT to scale bc I’m shit at art but basically you can’t have two cars driving on the road and one parked there’s not enough space.

I am getting so sick of people in the lanes where cars are parked speeding up and coming into the opposite lane to basically bully their way through so when a woman (red car) tried to do that today I stood my ground and got abuse for it!

I was driving up my clear lane, she could see I was there and still she edged forward and into my lane to try and force me back. When I stopped and shook my head she started gesticulating that I should reverse back (around a corner) to let her through. (There was a space around the corner I could’ve reversed into but why should I have to reverse around a corner when she could have reversed straight back a little bit and just let me through)

There was another car waiting further up, it had clearly stopped with enough room to let the red car reverse back.

I didn’t move at all and finally she gave up and reversed back just enough so I could get my car through and she’s yelling out of the window “if you can’t reverse you shouldn’t be on the fucking road”. I just smiled and gave her a thumbs up and went about my day.

Of course I am able to reverse and can perfectly well reverse around a corner when I need to but I don’t think I needed to in this situation? I’m very sure it was my right of way, but I’m just thinking about it now because of the junction, should it have been me that reversed and allowed her through. She wasn’t blocking the junction at any time even when she reversed.

Clearly your right of way provided she wasn't already alongside the parked cars before you.

FixTheBone she could see me driving up, I was in my lane. She did reach the first set of parked cars before I would’ve, but only because she sped up. She had to come into my lane to get alongside them, would that be her right of way? Seeing as I got there after

There are lots of roads around here like that. It is who reaches it first regardless of what side the cars are on which is the accepted rule around here but by the Highway Code states she would have to give way.

I was towing my horse trailer down past a long row of parked cars, my right of way. I was about 2/3 of a way down the when some idiot came straight at me on the wrong side of the road. I stopped and he started pointing at me to bump up on the pavement so he could get past!!!! Errr..... no! I wouldn't do that even if I wasn't towing a horse trailer, which I was. Now it was empty at the time but he wasn't to know that. Total idiot. He was furious and finally reversed back waving his arms and swearing at me

This isn't really a right of way issue per se. She will never have right a way driving in the wrong lane. You were in the right and it looks like she only had to reverse back a bit?

We have this exact situation on our road. It drives me nuts. I’ve been in your position a lot, the one thing that guarantees me not reversing is when someone wafts at me with their hands to show I should reverse. CF’ers.

I did then wait by the parked cars in my lane to let the pink car and another behind through. I just always thought that was the right way

leghairdontcare she had to reverse the smallest bit. She was just really irate about it. Her car was bigger than mine and sometimes I think that makes people think that everyone should give way to them regardless

We have the same problem here, I find turning off my engine and picking up a book, makes the person without right of way reverse!

We play a game when driving called idiot or not. Came across a few today as I let some cars through while my lights were red and there was a parked bus on opposite side of the road. Easier just to get in the queue and let everyone wait says Dh. I don't know anymore!

You have to go at some point and there will always be a cheeky one who chances it or is thoughtless on the road.

I was taught that if the obstruction (in this case the parked cars) are on your side, then the other driver has right of way - so you were right
