To think adults believing in ghosts are odd

Hi,

Aibu to think grown adults believing in ghosts is a bit odd?

I have an acquaintance who is also going on about going on ghost hunts and 'investigations' at supposed haunted sights. Of course they always seem to come back from them and say the evenings where 'quiet'.

I feel it's a bit odd that a grown adult can believe in this sort of thing. They're obviously not hurting anyone with this hobby but I find it so strange they're certain that ghosts exist.

Limitedsimba123 I don't think that's a person (ghostly or otherwise) - look at the smoothness of the move left to right, people walking bob up and down more. Looks more like something being wheeled back and forth across the window. I vote pranking neighbours!

HarryElephante · 10/08/2019 17:11

No they haven’t @HarryElephante**

I'm glad you can speak for everyone. Anything else I should know?

Ilovesnowsnowsnow · 10/08/2019 17:13

I have seen several ghosts and orbs. My boyfriend and I saw ghost of monk float across a field towards us, 1.00am in morning and we were at a junction in our car it terrified us. I have also followed an old man on a bike (miner I think) he had miners lamp on side of bike and clips round bottom of his trousers and a cap, he was a grey colour I followed him and he just disappeared. I have seen many orbs with a naked eye. Hope I don't see any more!!!

Ilovesnowsnowsnow · 10/08/2019 17:16

Must say I'm shocked at the number of people who don't believe, surely there has to be other things going on beyond our comprehension.

cardibach · 10/08/2019 17:16

@Limitedsimba123 I still think it looks like a person - it’s just in patchy sun so some of it is in shadow.
@HarryElephante I’m not the only one to point this out to you. There is no evidence ghosts exist. There is, I think, a massive reward offered for anyone who can prove their existence. It’s never been claimed. As ghosts don’t exist, people haven’t seen them. They’ve seen something, but it isn’t a ghost. I’m not ‘speaking for everyone’ because I’m not suggesting people haven’t seen something.

Kolo · 10/08/2019 17:18

Well, I have seen one...so how would I not believe in them?

Because if you use critical thinking skills, you will realise there are lots of far more likely explanations for what you saw than "ghosts".

This is just as easily applied to believing in a god.

I don’t believe in a god, but plenty of people do. And I wouldn’t dream of calling someone odd for believing in their god.

SperanzaWilde · 10/08/2019 17:19

@53rdWay, yes, the movement is very smooth, like wheeling -- could be something on a garment rail, if not a prank?

cardibach · 10/08/2019 17:20

Yup, thought so - there have been lots of prizes offered over the years but nobody has ever proved anything. This leads me to draw the logical conclusion there is no proof because the paranormal does not objectively exist.

Limitedsimba123 · 10/08/2019 17:29

I doubt it’s a prank, neighbour is in her early 50’s with adult DC

Sagradafamiliar · 10/08/2019 17:43

I don't think it's a prank either as you'd need to know you've got an audience for it rather than do it on the off-chance a neighbour just happens to notice it. I don't know what it is. Did it do the exact same motions for the entire 10 minutes?

GreyGardens88 · 10/08/2019 17:45

The video looks like someone walking back and forth with a towel round their waist/over shoulder

Sagradafamiliar · 10/08/2019 17:46

On a second look, it looks like someone wearing one of those light-deflector material hoodies and the motion is like they're trying to dodge/step over something

Beesandcheese · 10/08/2019 17:47

Not odd delusional and frequently being ripped off by the "medium" scammed who take advantage of the confused and emotionally vulnerable

dorisdog · 10/08/2019 17:51

I'm with you OP - really odd.

When my dog died I was very upset, and half asleep, thought for a second or two I 'saw' him in the corner of my room. I also 'heard' my Mum's voice whilst I was grieving after her death. It doesn't really take a genius to work our that our minds play tricks on us sometimes, especially if we are tired or stressed.

Limitedsimba123 · 10/08/2019 17:58

I don’t agree that it is my neighbour walking, particularly as if this is the case it would seem the first time she walks by she is walking backwards, but if this is the general consensus I’m going to take the video down as I shouldn’t really be posting videos of my neighbour online!

Oh and to PP, I do have critical thinking skills. I have a law degree and am employed as an Analyst, and am pretty good at my job.

malificent7 · 10/08/2019 18:01

I lived with a ghost for a year. Someone asked me my address and when i told them the first thing they said was 'oh *** used to live there...it's haunted....she saw a man walk through a wall! ' not just me then!

Lifecraft · 10/08/2019 18:11

I said in an earlier post that I think adults that believe in ghosts are a bit thick, and lack critical thinking skills. I was told how offensive and insulting my post was. Well, I present my evidence.......

I would love to hear anyone try and prove that ghosts don't exist.

SperanzaWilde · 10/08/2019 18:57

But what is more likely -- a visiting child/a prank/the neighbour passing back and forth behind his/her window (or even something fairly unlikely like the neighbour trying to teach him/herself to rollerblade in a light-reflective hoodie in a bedroom!), or a supernatural visitation?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 10/08/2019 20:06

I can’t explain the experience that I had

Did I actually see a ghost, was the vision an emotion that I picked up on and my mind played tricks, how did I know details about this person I had not heard of even though it lasted I think a few seconds I just knew, why before the experience/vision did I experience my senses become so alive and I had that feeling someone is looking at me

But the picking up on emotions is something that can’t be explained or measures but most people have experienced, the feeling we are being looked at, the emotion that can be left in a room, transference - these are all experiences that can’t be measured yet most will experience them at some point

Lifecraft · 10/08/2019 21:13

I used to have a neighbour who had a vivid imagination. And to be honest, a bit crazy. When she moved out, the next woman who moved in was just as bad.

So it's unusual, but it happens.

DejaVoodoo · 10/08/2019 22:27

Sorry to hear about your dog.
I had the same with my dog just a couple of days ago. I could have sworn I saw him toddling off to bed ahead of me when, in fact, he wasn't there. We can easily create images of things that we are expecting to see.
Thing is though, my dog is alive and having a little holiday with my DD!

SheChoseDown · 11/08/2019 01:01

Aww the video isn't available anymore. I genuinely wanted to see it.

SaraNade · 11/08/2019 01:39

Sorry OP but I find your ignorance to be odd. Ghosts absolutely do exist, I know this for a fact (and before anyone asks, I was wide awake, I was sober as a judge) they exist, and I found out many months later via historical information that the person that I saw, passed in my room. Loved reading books, sometimes would just stand reading (which is how I saw her). This is verified by photos of the previous occupants of our house.

Also speak to priests, funeral undertakers, even GPs etc. They will set you straight. You haven't seen one, so you can't understand. But your ignorance doesn't mean they don't exist.

SaraNade · 11/08/2019 02:01

@nothingmore I think you are quite gullible if you believe a book written by a Psychologist (not even a Parapsychologist) and magician. Lol. There are plenty of books on Parapsychology that denounce the rubbish that book you cite. GPs believe in ghosts, so do most funeral undertakers. You know why? They have seen them in their line of work. Seriously you will have to do better than a quack Psychologist who calls himself a magician, for proof.Biscuit

SaraNade · 11/08/2019 02:05

@littlewriggler They tend to be wearing clothes of the era they are from/where in when they died.
