To think adults believing in ghosts are odd

Hi,

Aibu to think grown adults believing in ghosts is a bit odd?

I have an acquaintance who is also going on about going on ghost hunts and 'investigations' at supposed haunted sights. Of course they always seem to come back from them and say the evenings where 'quiet'.

I feel it's a bit odd that a grown adult can believe in this sort of thing. They're obviously not hurting anyone with this hobby but I find it so strange they're certain that ghosts exist.

Yea, I'm also a bit confused about people who are happy to believe in whichever deity floats their boat but totally against the idea of believing in ghosts because of course it's not real and we have no solid evidence. Don't have evidence for any of the Gods either - doesn't stop that belief.

Booboosweet · 09/08/2019 12:40

Well, I have seen one...so how would I not believe in them?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 09/08/2019 12:41

I didn't believe until I saw them.

Spent 20 years working in nursing homes -often at night.

Plenty of ghosts knocking about. Every member of staff saw them.

Aus84 · 09/08/2019 12:44

I don't believe but I don't not believe. I find it odd that a grown adult could be so sure that something in this universe DOESNT exist when they have been on one tiny planet for one tiny period of time. Who made you the expert??

Chakano · 09/08/2019 12:50

I think you're a bit sad OP.
I've seen two and it didn't half shit me up as they were nobody I knew.
Believe what you want.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 09/08/2019 12:52

I don't see it as being any odder than those who believe in God tbh

Well I definitely believe in God. I'm on the fence about ghosts.

Am I odd? Well, probably but .....isn't everyone?

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 09/08/2019 13:00

Discounting sleep hallucinations/sleep paralysis, which accounts for a lot of this (it's generally at night that a "ghost" is seen but not always) I'm not sure I believe in ghosts but I do believe there's plenty we can't explain.

I believe humans have a kind of sixth sense, in the same way that animals sense dangers etc. that hasn't fully been explored.

GoGoGoGoGo · 09/08/2019 13:03

I would think it was my mind playing tricks on me, to be honest. Worked in a hospital for years and I’ve never seen a thing.

IveGotAlpen · 09/08/2019 13:04

So Op , according to your post, does that make anybody who believes in religion , god , Jesus etc etc weird too ?

Casander · 09/08/2019 13:08

I didn't believe in them, I'm perfectly level headed and "normal" and I don't believe in anything "woo" but then I moved to a house that had the most unexplainable things happen. And now I can't say for certain.

The way I see it is that the laws of physics say that an energy be created or destroyed, only transferred or changed from one form to another, so what happens to our energy when we die?

lazylinguist · 09/08/2019 13:09

YANBU. Same with gods, paranormal stuff mediums etc.

East7thst · 09/08/2019 13:10

i feel the same way about religion.

Its a belief, not a fact, and as long as they arent forcing you to believe in it then really, why care?

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 09/08/2019 13:12

Oh go away

Odd or not let people believe in what they want too ffs

Lifecraft · 09/08/2019 13:13

Well, I have seen one...so how would I not believe in them?

Because if you use critical thinking skills, you will realise there are lots of far more likely explanations for what you saw than "ghosts".

Starlingsarebullies · 09/08/2019 13:13

but I believe that whatever energy creates consciousness isn’t fully understood and could be up to some freaky stuff.

^This

Stinkycatbreath · 09/08/2019 13:15

I couldn't say either way. I think its important to be open to anything there are so many things we can never possibly know. The universe is vast I sont think I could say anything definitively.

DamnShesaSexyChick · 09/08/2019 13:18

I believe in ghosts because I have seen one, I wish it hadn't happened and I didn't believe in them but it did happen. I'm still horrified by it years later.

PooWillyBumBum · 09/08/2019 13:20

I agree with you. I also feel the same when I meet an intelligent human being who believes in their particular god/gods. runs and hides

CruellaFeinberg · 09/08/2019 13:22

I don't believe in ghosts or religion.

How do you know that you saw a ghost, or just hallucinated/imagined/mis-saw something?

NeverSayFreelance · 09/08/2019 13:22

Ghosts do exist, it's not childish to believe so.

Bluntness100 · 09/08/2019 13:23

I don't see how it's comparable to god. Few people claim to have seen god. Many many people have claimed to see ghosts. It's totally different.

God us about faith. Believing in something there is no proof of. Ghosts are something people claim to see. Yet even with people desperate to prove it, it's never ever been proven, they are simply unable to.

Totally different to god,

PolkaDotted · 09/08/2019 13:25

Ghosts do exist, it's not childish to believe so.

There's no evidence that they do.

EdWinchester · 09/08/2019 13:26

I agree. Much like astrology, it’s all absolute bollocks.

IvanaPee · 09/08/2019 13:26

I think you’ll only ever see one if you believe in them so that whole “you’ll believe when you see” is stuff and nonsense!

Because if you’re a person who believes (or knows) that they don’t exist then you’ll have a rational explanation for whatever it is they see. A trick of light. A fleck of dust. Being tired and the mind playing tricks...

IvanaPee · 09/08/2019 13:27

@NeverSayFreelance how is it childish not to believe in ghosts??
