Been saving for a cheap UK break.
Boyfriend said he was going to sort it as a surprise.
It was a surprise all right.
He has booked a caravan park (park dene resorts) less than 10 minutes from our house for a week.
Now it's not the fact it's a caravan,I enjoy a little caravan trip ...but 10 mins from our house...what is the point.
Nothing new to explore,or towns close by to visit that we don't go to all the time.
It's cost £409 for a week (well Monday to Friday )
Would you be a bit miffed ?

@yesnomaybes fingers crossed you are able to change it to a little bit further afield, otherwise do as @RomaineCalm said and try to look at the area from a tourists perspective Smile
although, I would feel the same way as you that's its a waste of money

ReanimatedSGB · 08/08/2019 23:12

Have you asked him what he was thinking? I'm wondering if he doesn't want to go on holiday at all and this is a way to get out of doing so.

NoddyAndBessie · 08/08/2019 23:12

You cant even go.for a pint. The Seagull has been shut for years.

Dmacka75 · 08/08/2019 23:13

yes yes to Seaham Hall or Ramside or even Rockliffe

Bumbags · 08/08/2019 23:14

What an idiot.

JustLookingThanks · 08/08/2019 23:14

OP I am so sorry!
I checked their terms and conditions, give them a ring, you can amend your booking for £40. They have many alternative locations. Hope you have a lovely break.

www.parkdeanresorts.co.uk/terms-and-conditions/

  1. Alterations to your booking. Once there is a contract you can’t transfer or change your booking without our agreement. If you want to make any changes we will try to help, but this will be at our discretion and will depend on the circumstances, including how much notice you give us and availability. There will be an administration cost of £40 plus any change in price if applicable (e.g. if you change dates or location).
Coronapop · 08/08/2019 23:14

Insist on your share of the money back and leave him to it. And change the locks while he is away.

yesnomaybes · 08/08/2019 23:14

@JustLookingThanks oooooh Thankyou
I would happily pay £40 to change it
I would take any other caravan park (not north east )

AnyFucker · 08/08/2019 23:15

Does he hate you ?

yesnomaybes · 08/08/2019 23:15

@AnyFucker I think so after this ..or has a fancy woman and wants me to dump him.

PinkiOcelot · 08/08/2019 23:16

Hi OP, I’m from the NE! I wouldn’t be happy with this at all. 8 mins?!!

WanderingTrolley1 · 08/08/2019 23:16

I would be more than miffed...

PocketsForMe · 08/08/2019 23:16

I came on ready to say yabu, Make the most of, he tried, all that shite!

I would be be gutted if my boyfriend paid over 400 quid to stay in a caravan park practically in the same postcode!

YANBU op! Hope you can get it changed

itsahardknocklife87 · 08/08/2019 23:16

Is he having a giraffe? That's not a holiday! Wonder if he is going to surprise you and using this as a wind up.

CalmdownJanet · 08/08/2019 23:16

A bit crap?? This is actually the shittiest holiday EVER, like what the actual fuck was hr thinking?? Is he thick? Like not being rude but he's clearly not very bright is he. I'd 100% not be going, no way José.

Rivkka · 08/08/2019 23:17

It might sound dramatic but that would honestly make me rethink my relationship.

Desmondo2016 · 08/08/2019 23:17

LTB. What a fucking dick. I'd never be able to tolerate him again after a stunt like that.

highheelsandbobblehats · 08/08/2019 23:19

We've done Parkdean holidays in the past and really enjoyed them with two very young children in tow, bit I'm completely with you on the 10 minute drive thing. That is an absolute bloody joke!

I've just come back from camping an hour away. At our closest beach that we have done in a day trip before. But still, an hour away seems a bit like a holiday.

Definitely spend the £40 to amend it to one of the Scottish ones. They look gorgeous!

PocketsForMe · 08/08/2019 23:19

Calm down Janet indeed Hmm

No need for the personal attacks!

Here’s hoping he’s winding you up OP

yesnomaybes · 08/08/2019 23:19

If anyone here has seen Benidorm...the first season when the woman is furious at her hubby for taking her to "the solano" that would be me at crimdon.

OP posts:
TheVanguardSix · 08/08/2019 23:20

I'm not sure how we are meant to pass the days away.

Drive the ten minutes home (alone) and hang out in the garden all day.

You can't breed with a man this moronic. Seriously, this would actually be a deal-breaker.

ChicCroissant · 08/08/2019 23:20

It would be a no from me as well, OP! If you can easily travel to another location then change the booking - if not, simply do not go.

As my family is quite spread out across the UK we usually meet up once a year at a central location. Last year, they booked somewhere close to me (not as close as your booking, I admit!) and I refused to stay as we could easily meet up with them - no way was I spending money to stay somewhere I would go for a quick visit normally!

yesnomaybes · 08/08/2019 23:20

I think if I opened the caravan window I would be able to see my house Grin

OP posts:
darkcloudsandsunnyskies · 08/08/2019 23:22

It looks lovely.

RandomMess · 08/08/2019 23:24

I'm sorry but it's hilarious!! I know the area and erm yep I would be fuming too... a 45 minute drive away would make it into a holiday but 8 minutes drive 🙈
