Been saving for a cheap UK break.
Boyfriend said he was going to sort it as a surprise.
It was a surprise all right.
He has booked a caravan park (park dene resorts) less than 10 minutes from our house for a week.
Now it's not the fact it's a caravan,I enjoy a little caravan trip ...but 10 mins from our house...what is the point.
Nothing new to explore,or towns close by to visit that we don't go to all the time.
It's cost £409 for a week (well Monday to Friday )
Would you be a bit miffed ?

Three of us spent three nights in Majorca this summer for £450 flights and accomm.. He has made a very bad decision!

Starlight2004 · 09/08/2019 12:35

Oh that sounds grim! Men are just a different breed aren't they! 8 minutes!!! Ffs! As others have said Park Dean will hopefully be helpful and change you to another park further away, they have loads of parks and I see they are offering last minute breaks all over the place! Please update and let us know if you have any luck!

PurpleCrazyHorse · 09/08/2019 12:43

We stayed 2 nights in a tent 15mins down the road, but we were testing it out as we bought secondhand and even popped home to get the buggy when DS kept running off. We did however go for a day trip to somewhere we'd not been before 40+ min drive on the Saturday though, so it was a bit like a holiday.

I would change the park and not tell him. Then bugger off on your own.

probstimeforanewname · 09/08/2019 12:43

Their terms say this, which is quite promising. Let us know where you manage to change the booking to, OP:

  1. Alterations to your booking. Once there is a contract you can’t transfer or change your booking without our agreement. If you want to make any changes we will try to help, but this will be at our discretion and will depend on the circumstances, including how much notice you give us and availability. There will be an administration cost of £40 plus any change in price if applicable (e.g. if you change dates or location).

We have stayed in a hotel close to home when we had dinner out and ds stayed overnight with the childminder. It was nice but the downside was childminder goes to church on Sundays so we had to collect him again at 9am.

Looneytune253 · 09/08/2019 12:44

We go to crimdon dene often from Tyneside and have a great time. Could you not transfer maybe to whitley bay. There's loads to do over there

Ninkaninus · 09/08/2019 12:47

It’s not a man thing! There’s no way my OH would ever do such a dumb thing.

BlackCatSleeping · 09/08/2019 12:53

I admit we go camping about 20 minutes from our house.

It's a nice campsite though, with loads for the kids to do and a hot tub, etc. We just go for the weekend. Pitch the tent, play for a bit, have a BBQ for dinner, hot tub and then bed in the tent.

5foot5 · 09/08/2019 12:54

In a just world the boyfriend would be obliged to come to AIBU and explain himself.

Yes!! I just can't begin to understand the thought process that resulted in him deciding that staying in a caravan 8 minutes from home was a holiday.

etotheb · 09/08/2019 12:56

I actually can't stop laughing, this is ridiculous, why don't you advertise to sell the holiday? Maybe someone from further away will be willing to buy it x

goldfinchfan · 09/08/2019 13:07

the only upside is that you can always nip back home for any thing you forget to pack....or even go back each day for clothes, to do washing etc........what a plonker Grin

goldfinchfan · 09/08/2019 13:11

I hope that you can get the booking transferred.
Not a holiday if you are so close to home at all.

yesnomaybes · 09/08/2019 13:23

Update -managed to switch to tummel valley in Scotland.
Had to pay extra and turns out he only paid just over £300
Do not only is he useless,he's a bit of a fibber too.
Much more excited now.

Bookworm4 · 09/08/2019 13:24

Excellent update, you’ll have a great time.
Think you need to sort him out though, lying and booking crap holidays 👊🏼💩

5foot5 · 09/08/2019 13:26

Great news!

But seriously - does he still not see the error of his ways?

Cheeserton · 09/08/2019 13:26

This is serious dunce territory, him thinking this would be a nice surprise.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/08/2019 13:26

Why did he fib about the money?

But well done OP - a beautiful part of Scotland!

Bonniegirlie · 09/08/2019 13:28

I would refuse to go. Let him go alone and enjoy his ridiculous holiday. Sheesh, what a tit.

lisbonholiday · 09/08/2019 13:30

I don't understand where you had such a specific price from if it was a lie? That's super strange

Starlight2004 · 09/08/2019 13:30

Well done for sorting it! It looks like a lovely site! He's got some explaining to do about lying to you! But at least it all sorted now and you can hopefully all have a lovely time.

flowery · 09/08/2019 13:31

"turns out he only paid just over £300
So not only is he useless,he's a bit of a fibber too."

He pocketed £100 of the savings for the holiday and lied to you about it?

Bookworm4 · 09/08/2019 13:31

Are we to get an explanation as to why he done this?

yesnomaybes · 09/08/2019 13:31

He said £409 too which was very specific
I'm not gonna bother asking him but get on with it now.
I've never been to that part of Scotland before.
I've only been to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Hopefully the weathers nice

OP posts:
violetmartini · 09/08/2019 13:32

I am so glad you got it changed! We went to Crimdon Dene a few years ago and left after one night, it was that bad!

MarthasGinYard · 09/08/2019 13:33

Op that's fab you won't need the roller blinds after allGrin

It's stunning there. Make sure you go up to loch Rannoch and get the train from Rannoch moor to FW it's amazing.

He shouldn't have lied about the cost though Angry

probstimeforanewname · 09/08/2019 13:33

Lovely area of Scotland - enjoy.

And you've got £100 extra spending money (well, £60 after the transfer charge).
