I am so fed up of toys being sold that sexualise children. I am fed up of seeing them in the supermarkets and in toy shops.

L.O.L Dolls have always grossed me out. The way they sexualise girl figurines is unjustifiable IMO and now they have done the same with a boy figurine.

AIBU to feel sickened by these toys?
AIBU to want them off the shelves in supermarkets and toy shops?

Wtf is that?!

joggerbottom · 08/08/2019 21:16

It's a L.O.L Doll. Supposed to be cutesy but I've always seen them as seedy.

LOL dolls are grim, but not as bad as those awful Brats doll from a few years ago... Those really were awful.

BlueisthenewGrey · 08/08/2019 21:19

I agree, that is awful. I'm hoping this brand is out of fashion when my lo is old enough.

cavycavy · 08/08/2019 21:21

How are they sexualising anything? They just look odd to me..... not sexy in any shape or form.

Is that a boy lol doll?

joggerbottom · 08/08/2019 21:21

Some of the figurines have lingerie style outfits.

I don't think there is anything wrong with lingerie, but on toddler figures, all kinds of wrong.

Now they have moved onto kink it seems...

I always assumed they were for collectors rather than children tbh.

joggerbottom · 08/08/2019 21:23

My DD has been asking about them because some girls in school have them. They are 4-5 years old.

They are marketed at children and can be found next to Barbies etc.

Really struggling to see what is wrong with them! Confused OR the Bratz dolls.

zeezee3 · 08/08/2019 21:25

4 year olds at school have them?

Come off it!

joggerbottom · 08/08/2019 21:26

I don't think my DD has seen them in school, but she has learnt about the dolls from peers in her class.

She often points them out when we go shopping.

dontlikebeards · 08/08/2019 21:26

It doesn't worry me tbh, kids don't notice it. I do think LOL dolls are overpriced plastic tat but that's another story.

dontlikebeards · 08/08/2019 21:28

Zeezee3 why are you surprised that 4 year olds have them? That's the demographic they are marketed to.

joggerbottom · 08/08/2019 21:32

Zeezee - I feel in my gut that they are wrong.

It is a toddler-like figurine wearing sexual clothing worn by adults, not little children.

My DD7 has loads - I think they look odd but hardly sexualised toddlers 🤔 I think it says more about you than them if that’s what you think. Dolls have ever been thus, children survive blah blah

VenusTiger · 08/08/2019 21:52

Barbie was way worse! All tits, skimpy outfits and no waist.
These aren’t even lifelike.

Prisonbreak · 08/08/2019 21:54

If you look at this and think of anything sexual then I think you should have a word with yourself.

Chocolate1984 · 08/08/2019 22:00

I hate LOL dolls. My daughter has one and i think it looks like a mini sex doll with open mouth, black fishnets and black underwear. I also hate all the plastic crap it comes with.

SmartPlay · 08/08/2019 22:14

I've just googled them and while I think they are ugly, I didn't find any that I consider sexualised - and I'm very sensitive about things like that!

Pinkout · 08/08/2019 22:19

Generations of girls played with Barbie and somehow survived untarnished, I’m sure girls today will be fine.

FWIW they are tacky and overpriced but they don’t sexualise children for heavens sake.

Pinkout · 08/08/2019 22:19

(I did know this thread would be about LOL dolls before I opened it though).

joggerbottom · 08/08/2019 22:21

I think they are a bit different to Barbie.

I want to know who sits down to design this sort of toy? What was the brief? Where did they get their inspiration?

Letthemysterybe · 08/08/2019 22:23

I think it looks grim. Like a mini sex doll with its open mouth and black pvc clothing. Who designs this shit??

joggerbottom · 08/08/2019 22:29

Prison- There is a notable difference between the picture I posted and other toys available to children like Our Generation dolls etc. I don't think it's normal to gift children toys that wear clothes that have sexual connotations.
