Feedback session with more senior person at work today. They’re quite slippery at giving feedback and have felt dispirited with their backhanded compliments in the past so was a bit on edge. In a nutshell, they said that they thought I was capable but that I panic/get stressed which could make other people doubt me
But that they would always have me on their team if they could. They said I reminded them of themselves when they were younger and that they were giving me advice in light of that. They were quite honest and said that I was obviously liked in the workplace as was constantly given jobs (we work in a project based environment) rather than drifting...
I stupidly focused on this aspect and began questioning them about this, asking if that was true and if people really do drift?! Feel like this wasn’t the most professional thing to focus on...
They did give me good advice though and when the session ended we chatted and I feel like I was inadvertently a bit patronising. Congratulated them on “managing the project well”

Does anyone else always say the wrong thing at work? I don’t like my job and can’t wait to move but feel like I’m useless socially
