Charged a tenner at travelodge to check in early ...

So I could leave luggage - left luggage was full.
Ok so it’s only a tenner but they said “yeah the rooms ready” Check In was 3pm. This was 1.30.

A bit crap IMO

Charging £10 on this occasion just seems mean and petty. If that had happened to me and I knew for a fact the room was empty then I wouldn’t use that brand of hotel again and discourage friends and family from doing so. Hopefully they’ll lose out on business and it would serve them right.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/08/2019 12:49

They don't have to provide lost luggage space for infinite guests.

They don't have infinite guests, though.

JacquesHammer · 08/08/2019 12:52

What would make sense would be for Travelodge to make it clear in their T&Cs that if luggage storage is full, then you can access your room early if it is ready but the £10 charge to do so will still apply.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 08/08/2019 12:53

‘‘Tis the Ryanair of accommodation, only to be expected. Have you seen their toiletries lol Grin

Ginisatonic · 08/08/2019 12:54

Ibis do this too. We stayed at one for DDs graduation so we wanted to get in and freshen up and change as soon as we arrived. Rather annoyingly having paid the extra the room wasn’t ready. But it was clear this was offered subject to availability. The receptionist was apologetic and hurried the cleaners up so we could get in. I thought it was worth £10.

They removed tea bags from our room that I’d picked up from reception to ensure we had the required One Per Person Grin

Thinking you shouldn't have to pay the early check in fee because 'the room is available anyway' is like arguing you shouldn't have to pay the bus fare because 'you're going that way anyway'.

Well I didn’t make the policy so.....you’d like me to offer to pay Premier Inn?

QualCheckBot · 08/08/2019 13:06

I don't think this is too bad! You're basically getting the room all afternoon, whereas with most check-ins, its based on you turning up about 6pm or so. Albeit their check-in is quite early at 3pm anyway but it gives you a lot more hours than many people would use the room for.

herculepoirot2 · 08/08/2019 13:07

I just don’t see the issue. You know there’s a charge, it’s their prerogative to charge it, you know there’s a luggage store but you know it might be full. They’re not obliged to store your luggage. 🤷🏻‍♀️

matahairyy · 08/08/2019 13:24

I think I’d anticipated left luggage as I’ve always used it successfully before.

Did they steal your tea bags though....Grin

herculepoirot2 · 08/08/2019 13:25

It’s a tenner on top of a very reasonable room rate, isn’t it? I can’t believe you complained!

matahairyy · 08/08/2019 13:26

Lol. No I had a nespresso machine darling 😉

😂

matahairyy · 08/08/2019 13:27

again no issue with a tenner

This however aggravated by the super room (not so cheap but hardly the Ritz) being READY only 1.5 hours before.

that covent garden travelodge is marvellous

such a good position and really convenient

did you get a high floor? you even get a proper view over London!

herculepoirot2 · 08/08/2019 13:32

Why does it matter if the room was ready?

Effiedg · 08/08/2019 13:38

Quite a few hotels are now sneaking in a charge for checking in early. It was only £10 and you had a choice.

matahairyy · 08/08/2019 13:38

Because it was no skin off their corporate nose

You’re very hostile towards a business from whom you expect good will, aren’t you? Entitled much?

matahairyy · 08/08/2019 13:43

LOL. Very hostile indeed. 😀🙄

I have worked on several hotel receptions in London, Edinburgh and my home town and I have never heard of this. Is this a new thing or a budget hotel thing? When the luggage room got full up we used all available spaces.
