What the hell should I do?

Just came up to bed, went to brush my teeth. Someone has left the bathroom light on and the windows wide open.

There are hundreds of what I think are mosquitoes in the bathroom, if they're not mosquitoes they're some type of flying, buzzing bug.

How the hell am I going to get rid of them all? They're literally everywhere.

Do you have hairspray? Spray them all with hairspray/deodorant/airfreshner

Ishoos · 08/08/2019 00:00

Are they attracted to light, could you open the window and put an outside light on/ turn off the inside lights?

Honeyroar · 08/08/2019 00:01

Turn the light off and leave the window open. Hopefully they'll spot another source of light to go after (watch they don't fly onto your landing after the light when you open the door). There were swarms of flying ant type things near us the other night. Might be them?

Findthewhitehorseonthehill · 08/08/2019 00:04

Good ideas.

The outside light is broken but there are lampposts out the back. I think they've definitely come in because of the light.

I thought maybe flying ant, they look too big, but I'm not sure.

Can you take a photo?

Haggisfish · 08/08/2019 00:17

Turn the light out and close door. Go to bed. Spray with fly spray in the morning

quizqueen · 08/08/2019 00:24

If they won't go out, time to use your vacuum cleaner!

DogHasEatenTheSqueaker · 08/08/2019 00:37

Good thinking from PP re deodorant.

Now all you need is a lighter and you can flamethrower the little bastards!

(Can you tell I'm sat here miserably scratching a bucketload of itchy bites?) Angry

Urgh reminds me of a couple years ago we had a bad swarm where I live. They managed to get into the operating room in the hospital and shut the place down Shock I remember going out into the garden and seeing hundreds on my back wall *shudder

Mileysmiley · 08/08/2019 04:53

they will buzz off once you turn the light off (leave the window open).. who wants to spend the rest of your life in a bathroom?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 08/08/2019 05:04

Don't you have any bug spray?
If you do, just spray it liberally into the bathroom and close the door, then go to bed. They'll all be dead by morning.

Findthewhitehorseonthehill · 08/08/2019 08:06

Sorry I didn't get a photo. I just closed the door turned off the light and went to bed.

Dh sprayed the remaining few this morning with deodorant (no bug spray), there's only a couple left.

Looking again I think they could be flying ants, although might be a mixture of bugs.

Will be reminding everyone to turn lights off this evening.

There's a few left, can anyone identify them?

The long tail bit you can see in the middle photo looks like a mosquito.

FenellaVelour · 08/08/2019 09:07

Thunder flies?

We used to get loads in our flat if we opened the window in the evening, we had to fit mosquito mesh in the end.

Haggisfish · 08/08/2019 09:17

They aren’t thunder flies. I agree mosquitoes.
