My mother has had a big industrial sewing machine for years. Her friend keeps bringing stuff to be repaired and not just her own but friends and neighbors as well. (She thinks friend is getting paid but my mam is definitely NOT)
My mam is quite elderly and can't say no.
So I finally got her to sell it ha.
Her friend tried to talk her into keeping it but I finally got my mam to see the light.
Her friend is soooo annoyed lol.
Best bit is mam has a small machine no-one knows about so she can still do her own bits and pieces.

TheBigFatMermaid · 07/08/2019 22:27

Oh Achara, You are fab!! I sew and I enjoy it. I have a decent machine and an overlocker. It is soooo hard to say no, but I have started to actually charge people who do nothing for me. Those who do me favours, I am a little more tolerant of!

achara · 07/08/2019 22:40

Thebigfatmermaid be careful learn to say no lol my poor mother would have strangers leaving clothes in because so and so said she would!!! She had a reputation for being too nice. Some people to be fair but there are so many people willing to take advantage.
My mam always says it's nice to be nice but I also think you have to look after yourself.
Enjoy your sewing. My mother is sewing since she was 24 and is now 89 and could teach you a thing or 2 lol

achara · 07/08/2019 22:40

Since she was 14 lol

I have a CF but I'm a coward really.
Her: Did you gave a nice holiday?
Me: I'm still on holiday.
Her: Oh, when are you back?
Me: End of the week.
Her: Great, I need help with DC on Friday, I'll give you a call!

My boss asked me to give her a haircut 5 weeks ago
She’s still not paid me for it
But can afford to go away on holiday for a week

My mother once drove me to Tesco and there was those people that cleaned your car while you shopped
Somehow I ended up paying them AND petrol to get there!

I babysat for a year for a woman (two days a week) and she didn’t provide food/nappies/milk let alone pay me for my time/make up for my lack of wages and when I called it all off she slagged me off to anyone who would listen-and somehow I was in the wrong!(ok I was a mug to have done it that long)

My brother lived with me for 6 months (I was a single parent of 3 with no money and £8000 in debt thanks to my ex and pnd)
He didn’t pay a penny in rent refused to babysit and ate all our food
I refuse to speak to him now

I think I have mug written on my forehead!thankfully my partner tells me now so it’s never happening again

I had one today. I almost posted about him but i didnt have the energy to respond to all the replies.
At dead on 7am this morning i hear drilling outside. Thought it sounded close by and waay to early so figured id go out the front to have a fag and a nosey to see where it was and what they were doing (so i would know if it was going to be a full day thing and id need to go out as ive had a migraine all week). Opened the front door to find a ladder directly in front of my door (i have a walled off front forecourt the size of a small hatchback). Inside my yard. Its moving so i could tell someone was up the ladder so couldnt go out. I didn't know if the ladder was stable or if theyd drop something and im not going to risk it. I call out hello? A gruff what??? Back as though im interrupting them.
This annoyed me so i was gruff back "who are you and why the hell are you in my yard?" My instant thought was workmen had got he wrong house and hadnt thought to knock on first. This wasnt the case.
A man in a hi vis vest stomps down the ladder so hard i thought itd fall over.
"Im installing xxxx (i didnt actually hear what he said he was installing because he was muttering) next door i need to drill through to her upstairs" no apology no explanatoon as to why theyre on my property. So i squeeze past the ladders and look where theyre drilling. Straight into my fucking bedroom.
"Thats not that property its mine you need to fill that hole and if its gone through and damaged anything on the other side you need to make it right." Because wtaf.
Gets huffy with me "well she (neighbour) doesnt want a hole in her front bedroom so were going to drill through here and then through the adjoining wall." Very matter of factly.
"No. Your fucking not i didnt know about this and i certainly wouldnt agree to it. (Who would??)"
At this point i ignore him and bang on my neighbours open front door and call to her. Weve always had a good neighbour relations but shes elderly and its possible she hadnt thought this through or he didnt explain it properly. She comes out and sees the ladders in my yard and looks confused.
"Thats clearly not my house what are you doing??"
"Look luv this will be easier otherwise were going to have to take it up and over the roof."
"Why dont you just drill into the wall where it needs to come out upstairs?? you cant just randomly drill into the neighbours wall!"
At this point i pipe up and repeat what hes told me and she looks horrified as he splutters and tries to interupt me and cut me off. Ive never seen her more steely. Ive always thought of her as quite fragile.
"You told me youd do it so it wasnt noticable up the wall NOT that youd do this. Ill be ringing your boss (who apparently is her son in law)"
Hi vis guy goes and sits in his truck looking mutinous. Me and neighbour go up to my room to check it hadnt come through the wall (i have my very expensive dream bed thats now discountinued and impossible to replace right where hed been drilling so if hed of ruined that i would if been furious) luckily it was fine and it hadnt gone through yet, id caught him early enough. Whilst weve been upstairs hes retreived his ladders and driven off.
Neighbour rings her son in law and explains what happened. Son in law is furious and came out about 2 this afternoon to fill the hole in my wall him self and fit his mils aerial himself (how it going through my house makes sense i dont know when its coming from the roof). I do have a very nice bunch of flowers and a bottle of wine now though so kinda worth it for a tiny hole. Glad i wast in bed at the time though.
Apparently the guy wasnt answeing the sil phone calls ir texts for an explantion and ive been promised an explanation as soon as he has one from neighbour. Somehow i dont think hi vis will be employed there much longer.

imamum21 · 07/08/2019 23:19

im going to be a CF tomorrow morning, my neighbour are assholes! they have a motorbike they need to rev up for 10 mins every time the want to use it mostly 9.30pm, the last few nights all ive heard is her shouting (she thinks she is talking and sounds like vicky pollard) slamming of the doors the f++king dog barking at all hours when im trying to get my child back in a routine for school (start back on the 15th) so tomorrow morning since we are meant to have crappy weather im having the music on full at 7.30am whilst cleaning the house from top to bottom not even answering the phone or door to anyone.... for anyone wondering the other neighbour passed away and the house is empty so wont affect anyone else. i might need to slam my doors a few times to check they dont stick either. the neighbours are private renting the house and i know the landlord but dont want to make a complaint as they wont care as long as they are getting there money. when the neighbour does pull me up for the noise im gonna me like aww did bob and linda not tell you that this is what i do on a school morning and i dont plan on stopping! this is my routine every day. if anyone has any ideas of what else i might need to do housework wise really early feel free to let me know

Owlbert · 08/08/2019 08:52

@pretenditsaplan you must have been fuming-I'm glad it all worked out and quickly too! If the company hadn't been a relation it could have been a very diffferent story!

Pretenditsaplan · 08/08/2019 09:11

Oh god yeah if itd if been sky or virging i doubt he would even stopped drilling and 6 months of them deying it wasnt theyre fault/a problem/needing to be fixed. Im hoping to catch my neighbour later to find out of shes heard any thing from her sil

Pretenditsaplan · 08/08/2019 09:18

Hell ive had a sky "engineer" unhook my sky dish before to plug in next doors instead at an old house. I couldnt get reception for 3 days and then caught him comi g back to realign it as my new neighbours had complained theyre signal was poor. Apparently it wasnt mine even though it was on the other side of my house to them and id only had it installed about 4 months prior and watched them install it. Oh and of course because it was actually hooked up. Theyd even had the cheek to charge the new neighboursfor a new dish. That took months and eventually changing to virgin and small claims court to get back the charges they tried to take. When the neighbour left after 12 months and the new ones had they sky sorted the engineer had the cheek to come round with a deal for neighbours of the new install. Cheeky buggers

TheBigFatMermaid · 09/08/2019 21:30

Oh ,oh, I have a new one!!

My neighbours across the road are a family of complete dickheads!

They have reported us to...... the police for 'taking photos of their house (DP was filming the racket), for driving without insurance (as if), to the HA for me and my DD giving them abuse when they are 'tidying their garden (a dig because my garden is not up to scratch), to SS for 'always being pissed and neglecting our DC! The RSPCA for neglecting our DDog, who we have recently had put down because she was failing at 18 years old, yeah, dogs get to that age when neglected.

Um, funniest was when their kids were kicking a ball against our fence and making our then much younger dog bark! They filmed it and took it to the HA! They HA had a go at them for winding my dog up and never said a thing to me!

Anyway, I am disabled, but they always park their many cars across the road right in front of their house. OK perfectly legal, so we just put up with it.

We have a kind of half drive, it used to be a full drive, but the HA put a fence up on the garden side of it when my DC were toddlers to stop them escaping, so we can' actually park on it and then get out of the car, not on either side. There is a bit of a hang off before the road too, but the HA moaned at us when we used that.

We got back yesterday from eating out and their eldest son was parked on our drive!! I just shouted that he better move it quick and he did but gave us a load of verbal along with it.

When the report was made to the HA they made out my kids were marauding teens that they were scared of. My DD was 12 and DS was 11 at the time. Theirs are older teens, hence all the cars!

When another neighbour was playing basketball right outside my house once at 11pm, I asked him and his friends to stop as it was keeping the kids awake, he stopped and apologised, my neighbours son shouted out the window 'Don't listen to her, we pay her rent'. Actually my DP pays my rent and always has, what with him working full time!
