To just take my puppy to playgroup anyway??

I have a 10 week old puppy who fell ill over the weekend. Long story short, vet took loads of bloods and samples ... found she was anaemic as well as something else that didn’t add up in the bloods. Gave her a strong wormer and antibiotics until results come back. - day after the wormer, she shat out worms and immediately returned back to her normal self. So much so that’s she’s driving me insane. She’s full of energy and she’s bored. She was due to start puppy playgroup on Monday night but vet said not to take her until we find out results of samples. It’s now Wednesday and the dog is driving me, my other dog and herself absolutely batshit crazy. There is nothing wrong with her anymore. Even the wet said it was likely just down to the worms.

Results are still not back. AIBU to just take her to playgroup tonight anyway?? She’s 10 weeks and needs socialising ASAP

Just to add, she’s a breed that NEEDS socialising as early as possible.

Puppy playgroup????? Confused

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 07/08/2019 16:03

There's a puppy playgroup!!! Sorry nothing helpful to add

TheBadNeighbour · 07/08/2019 16:04

Stupid name for it but it’s basically a socialisation class with other puppies

Vivavivienne · 07/08/2019 16:06

DO NOT TAKE HER. Please.

You don’t know what those results might show. Has she even had her second vaccs?

Where on earth did you get her that she was so wormy so young? Poor dog, I’m glad you’re taking care of her.

Summerwellunderway · 07/08/2019 16:06

Mm dpuppy indeed?
No pics, no advice..
Thems the rules...

Pollypenguin01 · 07/08/2019 16:06

Please don’t, what if one of the other dogs picked something up from yours and took it home to an elderly or poorly dog?

I know you’re pretty sure it was just worms and honestly that’s what it sounds like but you’re not 100% and it’s not ok to decide the risk for other people.

StupidSlimyGit · 07/08/2019 16:06

YABU, puppy play groups are amazing for socialisation, and I get a hyper puppy can be horrendous, but how would you feel if after you let your puppy play with other people's the results came back that yours had something catchy. It's like taking a child who the doctor has said to keep isolated to a birthday party, you wouldn't risk it.

AryaStarkWolf · 07/08/2019 16:07

If there's a chance that she might have something that could be passed on to the other puppies I wouldn't, that would be really selfish

Chickychoccyegg · 07/08/2019 16:07

it sounds like it was the worms and i'm glad your pup seems better, although I'd be tempted too, i probably wouldn't take her until all results were back and she had the all clear

Andysbestadventure · 07/08/2019 16:07

Do not take her.

msmith501 · 07/08/2019 16:08

Is she even vaccinated? I'd listen to the Vet. Isn't that why you pay professionally qualified people for? Why ask here - think about it. Maybe you'll be lucky and lots of people will tell you what you clearly want to hear... and er... they'd be wrong. Let's imagine the puppy has parvo or distemper or anything more serious ...

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 07/08/2019 16:09

Yabu, it sounds like the worms causing the issue and it probably is, but if there is even a slight chance it's not then you don't take her. Your vet has advised against it so I think you need to listen to what they say.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 07/08/2019 16:09

No no no. Ffs why would you if the vet said not to?
Missing one session won’t do her any damage but seeing as you are still awaiting her full results so don’t actually know what’s wrong yet, you could do serious damage to the other puppies there. What the hell is wrong with you that you’re even considering this?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 07/08/2019 16:10

They’re a thing Crunchy there are 3 within 10 miles of me. They seem to be a big field with agility equipment, some toys & a water trough in my area. Usually around £10 for an hour.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 07/08/2019 16:12

10 weeks old means she (and likely other dogs at the playgroup) haven’t had their second jabs yet so don’t take her.

Our dog needed a lot of socialisation and we missed our local playgroup thing by a week - was the only place we could take him without jabs so know how you feel. We took him to the pub, cafes, etc instead

Rumblejungle · 07/08/2019 16:13

No, definitely do NOT take her until she has been given the all clear from the vets getting results back. It would be phenomenally selfish of you as if there is an issue you will spread it around to other young puppies. The worms may not be all clear yet, it may be another type of parasite or even a virus. If you spread it around (however unintentionally) and cause the death of one of the other puppies, that maybe doesn’t have the strength in their system to deal with whatever it is then that would be absolutely horrendous. Please don’t be so selfish and just wait a bit longer until you know she is definitely ok.

TheBadNeighbour · 07/08/2019 16:14

If she had parvo or distemper age wouldn’t be flying around like an absolute nut job. She isn’t being sick, her plops are fine, bright eyed, waggy tailed, full appetite ... I’m just desperate I suppose. She’s so full on I’m tearing my hair out. I swear looking after 3 toddlers would be easier

Fortheloveofscience · 07/08/2019 16:15

FGS don’t take her to socialise with unvaccinated puppies and potentially put them at risk. If socialization is crucial for the breed you need to find someone with steady, vaccinated dog to come for a playdate. FWIW though, I’m not convinced that letting a horde of puppies run riot is necessarily teaching good things about socialization anyway...

FlyingElbows · 07/08/2019 16:18

Taking an unvaccinated puppy to a dog socialisation class is really not a good idea.

JustMe81 · 07/08/2019 16:20

Don’t take her. Hopefully the results will come back clear but if not you’ve potentially spread something to all the other young pups who might not recover as well or quickly as yours has.

bluebluezoo · 07/08/2019 16:20

so you have a 10 week old puppy that you know is full of worms at least. Shitting visible worms is not a minor infection that's been picked up recently.

The question being where has she come from? A rescue or reputable breeder would have wormed/flead/vaccinated and had health checks.

So my conclusion is she's come from a less than reputable breeder or puppy farm. God knows what else she may have. Keep her away from other dogs- her current symptoms may have been due to the worms but what else might she be incubating that she will pass on?

TheTitOfTheIceberg · 07/08/2019 16:21

Any chance you can ring the vets and get an ETA for the test results? It's too much of a risk to go against vet advice so if they say don't go, then don't go, but I do appreciate the socialisation window is quite short. However, you have another dog so they will be learning something from him/her, and there's no reason you can't do some 'paws off the floor' socialising in other, dog-free situations including with other species.

Lonecatwithkitten · 07/08/2019 16:22

If she has giardia inbetween bouts they are fine then three weeks later they are bad again.

Knowivedonewrong · 07/08/2019 16:25

Can you take her out into the garden and play fetch with a ball or other toys? Or put her collar and lead on and practise walking on the lead. That should wear her out.
