AIBU not to get out of bed for this?

Wee bit of backstory: We've had endless problems with our roof leaking. We recently paid 2 grand to get someone to come round and give the roof an overhaul but we still have one point where it's leaking. The roofing company we used are now on holiday for 2 weeks.

We had very heavy rain here last night and when I got up for a wee at 1am, I noticed there was rainwater dripping onto the hallway carpet. Seeing as it was 1am, I stuck a large bowl underneath to save the carpet then wen't back to bed.

DP woke up this morning and was huffing and puffing raising his voice, telling me I ought to have gone and had a look in the eaves of the house to see where the leak was coming from so we could tell the roofers. Yes, really. He wanted me to go fetch the torch, pull everything out of the cupboard which houses the access to the eaves, and go crawling around in there at 1am in my pyjamas. Hmm

I've told him this is ridiculous, I had to be up at 5.30am for work and if he cares so much, he can go crawl around himself next time it rains (we live in Scotland so not like there won't be plenty of rain in the next 2 weeks!) DP says I'm not being proactive and continued ranting at me until I left for work.

Would anyone else really have done this at 1am??

Not a teeny tiny chance. It will rain again, and if there was that much water coming through there will be staining in the eaves the next day. YANBU.

He's being ridiculous. We're in Scotland too and are forecast rain for the next few days, you'll (as in, either of you) have the chance to have a look at a far more sensible time!

To be fair I'd probably have woken my husband and we would have got it done together. I don't think I'd have just left it.

I would have woken him and done it together. Make it easier to be able to get work started sooner if you know the source

CatInADoghouse · 07/08/2019 12:53

Oh how ridiculous! I would have done exactly what you did. YANBU

Not a snowball in hell's chance I'd be doing that at 1am if I was getting up at 5:30am!

You've now got time to empty the cupboard and wait until it rains.

Whether you'd done it last night or within a week, won't make a difference. So he's out of order.

Probably would have been different if I knew he was going to get the work started sooner! He absolutely refuses to get another roofing company in. This one is "local" and therefore better. Hmm Something far wrong I think if you spend 2 grand on the roof just for them to not fix the leaks!!
