WIBU to buy Playmobil for myself?

Having seen @SoMuchToBits amazing Playmobil thread, I've fallen down a Playmo rabbit hole. The aquarium! The camper! The zoo!

Sadly my DD is 21 (years, not months 😂) so don't think I can get away with buying it for her. Shall I just blatantly buy it for myself?

Anyone going to see the Playmobil movie?!

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 16:46

I'm not sure, LIZS. I love Playmobil, but one of the things I like is that with most of the sets, the people don't have names or predetermined characters. So they can be who you want them to be. I'm not so keen on the new branded sets (e.g. Ghostbusters, Spirit) where the characters are already set and named. And I think it will be the same with the film too.

I’m thinking of investing in a new Playmobil Christmas market this year. I loved it so much as a complete set, but in recent years all the bits of ours have been absorbed into the various storage tubs we have where all the Playmo mingles.

LIZS · 07/08/2019 16:53

I tend to agree. Ds thinks it will probably be worse than the Lego movie but worth watching to see how bad, dd won't go as she prefers the freedom to create characters and stories , and a film would ruin it.

On the back of this thread we've already had one box reappear! They are now planning a whole new combat series when the rest makes it out of the loft. Apparently ds had "borrowed" her horses and foals for the barbarians etc to ride!

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 16:55

The new Christmas market does look good! And the sleigh pulled by reindeer.

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 16:57

I do quite like the look of Rex Dasher though. He would be very useful in certain scenarios. But if I buy him, I won't be calling him Rex.

Has the Playmobil Vermeer been discussed?

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 17:25

No, is that some kind of promotional special set?

ipswichwitch · 07/08/2019 18:29

Next time I’m down SoMuchToBits I’ll bring the Playmo - we could set up an epic Playmoland!! I’m adding the Christmas bakery to my list for this year. I’m getting the ski lodge so I want to set up the North Pole in my sitting room!

64sNewName · 07/08/2019 18:36

I heard about the Vermeer milkmaid set in a New Yorker article a while ago. I think they maybe also do a Playmobil Rembrandt’s Night Watch, although I haven’t seen that one.

I thought it was kind of sweet and funny that they were doing art history ones but I haven’t actually purchased.

I buy mixed bags of Lego quite often from charity shops and there often is a random Playmobil figure in there. I have ended up with quite a few that way. One is an female one that appears to be dressed as a Nun !
Pointless trivia time..... apparently Playmobil figures are called 'klickies' !

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 18:49

Yes, there is a Playmo nun.

Bubblysqueak · 07/08/2019 18:59

Yes of course yabu everyone knows it's Lego or nothing!

joangray38 · 07/08/2019 18:59

I remember going to Malta years ago and watching the lady who cleaned the toilets putting the heads on playmobil figures! She had buckets full to do, she told me she got 5c per 10 figures. The factory is in Malta and you used to be able to buy bags of it at the markets. Now you can tour the factory.

Lego or nothing? Shock

Ds loved Lego too, but used it in a different way. Lego he used to build a lot but not play with it much afterwards (although he would take it apart and recombine it), but Playmo he would build and then make endless scenarios.

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 19:09

Ah, police, Marthas!

We have plenty of those...

Tigerbandage · 07/08/2019 19:25

If you want it buy it
I’m 42 and I buy loads of toys for myself, Lego, sylvanian, playmobil
If you can afford it and it makes you happy, go for it, life’s too short !

MarthasGinYard · 07/08/2019 19:45

JoangrayShock

Malta really

I must visit there

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 20:47

@ipswichwitch, I'd love the ski lodge! PM me if you are coming over here, and maybe we can arrange a Playmo meetup!

RosesAndRaindrops · 07/08/2019 20:51

Biggest YANBU EVER from me lol, do it!
Just been looking at the Playmobil thread, I really want to go out and buy some now Grin

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 21:00

Thank you, Roses, do feel free to comment on the Playmo thread, I love seeing what people make of it, even if they have suggestions for improvements!

Owlbert · 07/08/2019 21:01

Do it! And get yourself a Playmobil advent calender every Christmas too! My daughter has loads, I particularly enjoy playing with the water park in the summer!
