WIBU to buy Playmobil for myself?

Having seen @SoMuchToBits amazing Playmobil thread, I've fallen down a Playmo rabbit hole. The aquarium! The camper! The zoo!

Sadly my DD is 21 (years, not months 😂) so don't think I can get away with buying it for her. Shall I just blatantly buy it for myself?

Whatever makes you happy OP! I loved playmobile as child. If I had some in front of me now I don’t think I could just ignore it.

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 12:47

We have the kebab vendor @ipswichwitch! He was at the Royal Wedding street party last year.

By the way do you live in Ipswich?

Bookworm4 · 07/08/2019 12:48

None of my 4DC ever had playmobil; they were Lego and Sylvanian collectors; have I neglected them ??

bookmum08 · 07/08/2019 12:53

I am an AFOL (adult fan of Lego) and becoming one has been one of the best things to happen to me. I go to /take part in model shows. Some just Lego, some include other models like Hornby trains etc.
I would LOVE to see a Playmobil display at one of these shows. Go for it.

SistersOfPercy · 07/08/2019 12:54

I bought half the catalogue when DD was little. She sold most of it but I refused to part with the original victorian mansion. It's in the loft at present but at some point I do want to display it again.

Our Playmobil nativity comes out every year

We had two of their Christmas scenes when DD was small and they came out every year. Then when she was a teenager she became too cool for them and we gave them to a young DN (who I don't think gave a stuff for them because they weren't new [hmmm])

We now both miss them (she is 23) maybe I should buy another

Sewrainbow · 07/08/2019 13:48

Pssst 30% off playmobil at john lewis I noticed yesterday Wink

I wish I could buy some but my dc are too old and my dn too young Sad

It certainly lasts my children played my childhood stuff and I shall pass ours on to dn but not the toy xray machine that's mine!

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 14:04

My ds is too old, but I don't care, I still buy it!

bluegirlgreen · 07/08/2019 14:08

@TooManyButtons

Go for it gal! I you enjoy it.

I used to love playing with my kids toys. Lego, little bratz dolls, jigsaws, video games, toy dinosaurs, floats and stuff in the swimming, swings and slides etc. One thing that's great about having kids is you get to be one yourself again! Grin

StupidlittlepricknamedRick · 07/08/2019 14:20

Absolutely nbu
I adore it and have recently got the playground, picnic set and BBQ party "for DD" Blush

somanyresusablebags · 07/08/2019 14:22

We just bought a house and accessories for the 3 year old. It has paid for itself 1000000000x over because all the older siblings now want to play with her.

I love the pyrex the best.

HarrietSchulenberg · 07/08/2019 14:28

On Monday of this very week ds2 attempted to clear out the Playmobil, of which there is a lot (prob a couple of grand's worth when bought new). Ds1 went ballistic and has now squirrelled it all in his bedroom, claiming it as his own (to be fair, much of it is).

They are 16 and 18.

The 12yo doesn't care either way as he's a Lego fan.

TooManyButtons · 07/08/2019 14:31

I've been procrastinating over doing much needed decorating and housework for weeks. I've promised myself a Playmobil reward if I get it done - so far I've achieved more in the last hour than I've done in 3 weeks 😂😂

I must buy the nativity set!

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 14:53

Think there is a new nativity set this year, Toddler!

Our nativity kings also featured as "Foreign heads of state" in a couple of our royal weddings. They arrived by camel...

Playmobil is fucking awesome. My mum buys mountains of it for the kids (I appear to have about 9000 small plastic grandchildren, all individually named, and the ones with legs that have snapped off are in wheelchairs to include them) and I’m forever having to stop my step father spending hours constructing elaborate setups involving the entire Roman Empire (yep we’ve got the Romans and Egyptians too as well as most of the city life stuff) and getting very very flustered when all the Egyptian children are kidnapped to go play schools with all the other children! (The children then go on school trips into the trap rooms in the pyramid and straight off to the hospital - I really think Ofsted need to investigate DD2’s school)

The stuff is flipping awesome! We went on holiday to Germany and came home with new sets that hadn’t launched over here yet in our suitcases.

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 15:00

Pantsy, our Playmo fire boat captain Bossy Ross had to have his leg stuck on again when ds's grandad trod on him. He's still slightly unsteady on his feet. We also have a one-armed firefighter called Graham. Actually, he's Original Graham, because we ordered a replacement Graham.

Quite often you can buy the sets released in Germany but not the UK on Amazon. I did that last year with a new carriage for the royal wedding. It only just arrived in time!

LIZS · 07/08/2019 15:10

Ds , now 21, says go for it! Now he's back from uni he thinks he will finally sort out ours, which was a mixture of European 2001- 5 and UK 2006-2010. He thinks his could reenact Games of Thrones (minimal sex as cannot remove clothes) while dd's considering Jane Austen/wedding reenactments.

ipswichwitch · 07/08/2019 15:28

Yes I do remember that SoMuchToBits - I love the wee elephants leg and all the bits and pieces that go with it! I used to live in Ipswich, and a lot of my family still do - my DB is a speedway fan, hence my oh so flattering nickname 🙄😂

oldmumnewmum · 07/08/2019 15:30

i buy lego for myself, it's great fun, i'm 37, do what makes you happy :)

ipswichwitch · 07/08/2019 15:35

My favourite is Santa’s house, complete with snowman, tree, elf and all sorts of Christmas stuff. I get it out on 1st December, before the decorations even go up!

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 15:36

Ah, I just wondered, ipswichwitch, as I also live there. Thought maybe we could meet up and compare Playmo! Grin

SoMuchToBits · 07/08/2019 15:38

I don't know what's my favourite - obviously Norman and his mates have been very well loved and played with. So much so their arms are all loose now!

chocolatemademefat · 07/08/2019 15:39

We have a lot of playmobile because my 2sons loved it but the sets they had aren’t the ones I want. I want houses and shops and the hospital. Only my love of sylvanian families stops me from having my own Playmobile. I have no room to store it sadly ☹️

Chocolatedaim · 07/08/2019 15:40

I love playmobil, my mom saved all of mine and my brothers from about 30yrs ago so now my daughter has it. We have a treasure island, a Star Wars Death Star, and a castle with working canyon. I say we have it because I love getting it out as much as DD does. She also has some modern playmobil, princess castles and farm. They are all fab!
