To think I shouldn't have to argue with a company to take my money?

Ordered an online shop from Asda over a week ago, money was in pending payments and then I noticed this morning it had gone back in to my available balance.

I phoned the bank to see if there was a problem and they said that Asda just hadn't taken it and to contact them. So, phoned them up and they said that sometimes that happens and they'll take it again at some point. I asked when they thought that might be and they said that legally they have 6 months to take the money so it will be at some point between now and 6 months time! I said I wasn't too happy about that, whilst technically the money has been spent I don't fancy spending the next 6 months deducting £120 off my balance.

I asked if they could change the payment card to a different one so I could keep the £120 separate in that account for when they decide to take it. Computer says no. We went back and forth for a while, me asking why they can't just take it again now, her saying legally they don't have to.

In the end she spoke to her supervisor who said they could put it through again manually and it will come out in the next week. Not sure why they couldn't do that to start off with.

I know in the grand scheme of things this is a minor inconvenience but I'm currently going through some pretty major health issues and whilst keeping the money in my account is doable, it's just an extra thing I have to remember and worry about.

That’s so annoying and would really be difficult for us too. How ridiculous!

Have you had the delivery? They probably charge your card when it is delivered, when they know the exact amount, so if it hasn't been delivered yet, that will be why.

This is one of the reasons why I keep my bills account and spending accounts separate. I don't need to worry about spending the mortgage money etc because I don't spend from that account.

What I actually do for nearly all spending is put it on a credit card that is paid off in full every month by direct debit, so I just have to check once a month that there is enough money in the account once a month for all DDs, including the credit card payment. It makes keeping track so much easier.

Is there any other online stores who deliver in your area? Do a search on here for Asda food delivery op, I’ve read enough to be put off for life.

Yes delivery was 9 days ago and I've had another delivery since then for which the money has been taken already. My fixed bills come out of one account but food shopping comes out of the same account as all other spends, it's never been a problem before but obviously rethinking my system now.
