I'm a tall lady , (5ft9)in good shape(weigh 9stn) with a reasonable diet (I don't really cut much out and do have a sweet tooth but eat in moderation),in clothes I admit I look good, however the reality is once naked my body is disgusting. I've birthed 3 children over 10 years and each time the cellulite I've amassed has grown epically.it's not an exaggeration. My thighs, bum, front and back of legs and lower tummy are like bumpy matresses full of pocks and ripples. I work out 5 times a week weight lift and run and drink plenty of water but nothing is shifting it.I can't even look at myself in the mirror ,I feel so ugly i know it's unhealthy but it really affects me.I hate wearing anything short or summer clothes.has anyone got any advice to lessen it or anything which has worked?, I sometimes feel like just chopping all my skin off on my bum and legs.

Removing all sugar from my diet, with the exception of small amounts of low sugar fruits (berries essentially), really reduced my cellulite.

It sounds painful, but actually was quite easy once I had gone through the initial withdrawal period. I went through a week of bad headaches & cravings, followed by several weeks of lighter headaches.

I had a sweet tooth before I decided to cut it out, now I simply prefer savoury foods and don’t even like the smell of sweet foods.

Siameasy · 06/08/2019 22:22

i agree about sugar. I don’t have that much and I do low carb high fat and do not even eat fruit. I exercise too but not as much as you. I’m 5.4 and weigh 9.5 so heavier than you too! You sound like you are working extremely hard and I hope u find a solution.

Siameasy · 06/08/2019 22:22

*i mean I don’t have that much cellulite

WhatAMum01 · 06/08/2019 22:26

@flying sounds like a plan to try,tho i hate the thought of completely removing sugar as I enjoy it and trust me my life is really hard at the moment (I have a severely disabled child )so I kind of need a little something!but I must try

I found cutting out a lot of sugar has massively decreased my cellulite, especially from bum.

WhatAMum01 · 06/08/2019 22:29

@Siameasy sounds like even the odd treat must be bad for my cellulite, so depressing,I'll have to maybe try a diet similar to yours.always think it's so tough to cut carbs tho?what to eat instead.I'm a very stressed person just now and need energy

I eat nuts instead of sugar. Not masses but just a few as a treat when called for.

If I am really sugar craving (very rare now) I eat a couple of squares of 70% + Chocolate. I nibble it and just let it melt in my mouth. Try it, it works !!

Without sugar I have also naturally reduced other carb cravings. I just don’t crave food anymore and seem to naturally turn to protien and vegetables instead of carby meals.

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows · 06/08/2019 22:40

Protein, not protien.

PamelaTodd · 06/08/2019 22:46

Following with interest. My legs have become very cellulite-y this past year. I’ve had it on my bum and upper thighs for years but now it’s nearly at my ankles. I was wondering if exercise would help, or if it’s one of those things that you just have to live with.

BedraggledBlitz · 06/08/2019 22:52

Your reaction sounds very extreme, the way you describe hating your body. The exercise regime and your low weight. I apologise if this sounds patronising and I am no expert, but could you have a form of body dysmorphia or other mental health issue that's fuelling this?

WhatAMum01 · 06/08/2019 22:53

@Flyingsouthwiththeswallows I'm definitely going to try cutting back sugar.i exercise enough and my weight isn't an issue just this horrid saggy bumpy skin

OP posts:
WhatAMum01 · 06/08/2019 22:55

@BedraggledBlitz no mental health issues and no body dismorphia, I actually think I'm fairly attractive otherwise

Sugars cause inflammation all over the body. I would cut them out and also use a fascia massage tool to see if it helps.

Jaffacakebeast · 06/08/2019 23:04

Cutting out caffeine, but using caffeinated body scrubs. drink mostly water is meant to be the best way to reduce cellulite

bubblesforlife · 06/08/2019 23:08

I have cellulite and really bad water retention in my legs. I tried a course of LPG and it changed everything.
It is pricey but if you can afford it, it changed my legs!

WhatAMum01 · 06/08/2019 23:37

@bubbles ohhhhh what is lpg and exactly how pricey!

bubblesforlife · 07/08/2019 08:23

Its a machine that is used to “pull the skin” in massage movements, and it forces your skin to produce its own collagen and tighten up. It also breaks down the cellulite.
6 sessions.. 400-500?

LifeofRye · 07/08/2019 08:27

What's massively helped me is cutting out all processed food, no sugar or dairy and drinking lots of water with apple cider vinegar. I don't have much cellulite at all now.

Stubborn problems require equally firm and stubborn solutions! If I have a treat I make sure it's not food based. A new notebook, a cinema trip, a DVD or new lipgloss; that emotional shift has really helped me.

LifeofRye · 07/08/2019 08:28

And I echo to cut out all caffeine!

RickJames · 07/08/2019 08:31

It's not a cure but I find a good fake tan makes everything more presentable.

Craftycorvid · 07/08/2019 08:37

As far as I understand it, cellulite is partly genetic so it could just be it’s in your family ie not necessarily lifestyle-related. Women get it mainly due to our fat/muscle ratio (can’t give you the science on that). And, as you say, it’s definitely not necessarily to do with being generally overweight. As PP have said: tissue massage can help cosmetically, and some say changing your diet and drinking more water too. This is purely my ‘take’ from experience and I’m not a medic.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/08/2019 08:39

bubblesforlife intrigued about LPG, how much and how many sessions? I have always carried weight on my legs, so much cellulite and poor circulation. Was manageable when I worked out 5 days a wk pre child, now it’s just horredous

EerieSilence · 07/08/2019 08:44

I am 47. While I am slim, my body is clearly showing signs of sagging as the natural gravity takes over. Which is normal, plus having had 5 surgeries on my belly clearly didn't do its elasticity any good.
I couldn't give a flying fuck. Yeah, it would be nice to have those totally perky boobs and belly again and yeah, I had those but at the same time I was totally insecure about other stuff.
At a certain point and age I decided that my body is what I will bring with myself to my grave and not the lasting memory my family will have of me so why should I be bothered about dimples etc? It's not the most important thing in the world. I never felt bad about my body since I adopted that attitude.

Sidalee7 · 07/08/2019 08:50

Dry brushing after a shower is really effective. I’m slim (size 8) but I’ve had the dreaded cellulite since I was 16!
Loofah in the shower, starting on legs, moving upwards. Finish with a cold blast of the shower. Then 5 minutes of dry brushing with a body brush for 5 minutes once you are dry. A faff but it does work - gets the circulation working - and I must start doing it religiously!

Siameasy · 07/08/2019 08:51

Have a look at the Low Carb Bootcamps on here. We basically eat no sugar, no sweeteners, low starch. The focus is full fat. Meat, eggs, fish, seafood, low carb veg eg cauliflower is a good one. Dairy in moderation. Later on berries and nuts too.
You won’t need to do as much exercise (if you don’t want to) as you’re currently doing to maintain your weight on low carb.
Re energy you may feel groggy at 1st but relying on sugar for energy is a vicious cycle
