People who say, “Blatantly / Shamelessly Placemarking” - AIBU?

First of all, what is actually “blatant” about it Confused or why should you feel “shameless” about chipping in?

Secondly, why do you need to mark your place on the thread anyway, when surely you can just read the thread?

Thirdly, can you not really think of anything whatsoever to say on the thread that has intetested you enough that you’re reading it? Even a YABU or YANBU would do. Or, “Good luck OP.” Anything really.

Finally, AIBU to find the word “placemarking” irritating in itself and the whole thing pointless?

OP posts:

It's totally pointless because there is a Bookmark function. Click on that and it marks your place in a thread without the need to tell everyone and clog up the thread with posts.

So YANBU Smile

You need to comment as watched doesn't

IamtheOA · 05/08/2019 18:56

Well done OP Flowers

Notthebloodymustardcushion · 05/08/2019 18:58

Placemarking

TwistedStrawberry · 05/08/2019 18:58

YANBU. It's up there with "didn't want to read and run".

DameXanaduBramble · 05/08/2019 19:00

Can’t say it bothers me, don’t let it get to you, op.

rosinavera · 05/08/2019 19:00

Placemarking too as I don't know how to bookmark - someone please tell me!!! :-0

PorterBella · 05/08/2019 19:01

ScreamingValenta · 05/08/2019 19:02

'Placemarking' is shorthand for 'I find your thread interesting but have nothing to add to it at the moment' - I don't see anything wrong with it.

'Blatantly/shamelessly placemarking' is shorthand for 'I'm more honest than those people who are posting YANBU/YANBU/Good luck OP' Grin

PorterBella · 05/08/2019 19:02

Bookmark: hover your cursor under 'message poster' and it appears.
Smile

PooWillyBumBum · 05/08/2019 19:06

YANBU.

They are probably the same degenerates who write “F” on Facebook posts.

rosinavera · 05/08/2019 19:07

@PorterBella Thank you - going to try it now :-)

rosinavera · 05/08/2019 19:10

@PorterBella That doesn't work for me perhaps because I'm on a chromebook?? :-(

DramaAlpaca · 05/08/2019 19:11

Utterly blatant placemark Grin

I do it when I don't want to comment because I have nothing useful to say but want to see how the thread goes, or because I think it's a troll thread & want to see the deletion message, or because I don't want to bookmark that particular thread.

So there.

rosinavera · 05/08/2019 19:22

@PorterBella Sorry it was there....I just wasn't looking down far enough! Where do you search for it then though? Me and technology aren't good friends I'm afraid - I don't know how to add the smileys either!! No hope for me!! :-(

greenwaterbottle · 05/08/2019 19:22

If you bookmark it you don't get deletion messages

EAIOU · 05/08/2019 19:24

Shamelessly placemarking.

Good luck OP.

PorterBella · 05/08/2019 19:26

rosinavera When you click on the thread again it will take you straight to the bookmarked post. If you click on 'Watch' too it saves the whole thread in your watchlist too.

rosinavera · 05/08/2019 19:28

Thank you @Porterbella :-)

SauvignonBlanche · 05/08/2019 19:31

Only here for the deletion message Grin

I do agree with you OP it’s very annoying.

ShakespearesSisters · 05/08/2019 19:36

I'm using an android phone. All these things dont seem to be an option. I've tried countless times to click on the three dots or hover over the white are above and below "message poster"
I've tried it on desktop mode too. I wish it worked.

APoxOnThePox · 05/08/2019 19:41

For an android phone ho to the top of the thread, click the downward arrow on the right, select "watch this thread"

HappyHammy · 05/08/2019 19:44

Have bookmarked and watch this threadSmile

Nomoremilk · 05/08/2019 19:44

It's like people who put "f" on Facebook.
