To buy a small car?

We are a family of 5. DCs are 11, 11 and 7.

We currently have a citroen C4 grand Picasso and a C3 Picasso. Both are 10 years old and starting to fall apart!!

I’m thinking of swapping one car for a little Fiat 500 that will do for school run and my work (approx 15 miles a day). Then we can get a more comfortable car for DH to use (averages 70 miles a day) and will be big enough for all 5 of us. No idea what that would be!

Am I missing something in my plan to avoid another mummy bus??

As long as you have a car that all 5 can fit in then I can’t see a problem.

Although if your dh is doing big miles him having main use of the smaller car may make more sense financially

I’m pretty sure Fiat 500 only has 2 seatbelts in the back. So no good for 5 people. I have a little Hyundai I10 and my family of 5 fit nicely in it. My children are 20, 17 and 14.

It depends what you want in a car, if you want reliable & fuel efficiency then I'd suggest having a look at Dacia Sandero.

If you want something that's quirky, looks good and not so worried about running costs fiat 500 is ok. But is there enough room for three kids plus shopping plus kid related paraphernalia?

Fiat 500's are good for 2 adults and one small child in the back. And that's it. Tiny boot. Very uncomfortable for tall people in the back. Don't do it.

I have a Fiat 500 for me, 2 kids and a dog (although now I have a DP too...didn't have him when I bought it!). I got rid of a BMW estate to get the Fiat!

It's a lovely car and it will be absolutely fine, especially if your DH has a bigger car.

The boot is bigger than that on some other super minis.

I did exactly that, OP (only I have 4 DC). So rare we all go somewhere together, anyway. Our big Car is a VW Touran.

I have a new micra, I love it. Fits 3 in the back and a good boot. Cheap to run and a nice drive. We’ve got a big car aswel but I prefer the micro!
