DD is 1 in a few weeks so today i went out and bought some babygrows as she is growing out of her other ones which are 6-9 and have lasted forever and are a bit tight now. The ones i bought today are 12-18 months.

I went for a nap as ive felt a bit poorly today, he comes charging upstairs with DD look at her its way too big my daughter isnt wearing that it looks stupid she wont fit in this for months. I said you said the same thing when i bought them other ones. Hes pulled them off her and put the other 6-9 months ones on.

Surely its more comfortable for DD to be in something a little baggy than tight!

He gets this thing of his mum where they only by clothes to fit just for now doesnt make any sense to me why am i going to buy 9-12 when she will be out of it soon.

Aibu should i have bought a smaller size? Hes downstairs sulking like a little child now.

He's bonkers.

CottonSock · 04/08/2019 21:50

What an idiot

MondeoFan · 04/08/2019 21:51

Personally I always buy clothes to fit now and never buy ahead. But I live for the moment. I don't like baggy clothes on kids and if she's walking won't the baby grow be too long. Mind you it's just as bad having a baby grow too small. I'd put the age 1's away for now

PinkiOcelot · 04/08/2019 21:51

WTF! How would she look stupid in a slightly bigger babygro?! For bed, I presume?
He sounds like a prick.

stuckinthewrongbody · 04/08/2019 21:52

This is what i mean its just for bed hes crazy, shes not walking yet.

Agree with pp he’s bonkers

RB68 · 04/08/2019 21:52

If they wear ones too small they can damage the development of their feet so slightly baggy is necessary but at that age I would prob have bought the ones that fit now as baby will be cruising and possibly walking soon and if babygrows to big then there is a trip hazzard. His reaction howver is unreasonable

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 04/08/2019 21:52

He’s acting stupid. However I remember cutting off the feet of a baby grow when they was in that in between stage.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 04/08/2019 21:53

Hes being an idiot but i probably would have bought 9-12 purely because if shes just outgrown 6-9 then surely the next size that fits will be the next size up not 2 sizes up.

EKGEMS · 04/08/2019 21:53

And what size baby grow does he wear.? I'd be livid if I felt sick and was woken up over such a trivial issue! Honestly, does he think the other one year olds will be texting their friends gossiping about it?

Redcrayons · 04/08/2019 21:54

You're right. Buying a bit bigger to get more wear out of it is sensible.

He's being an idiot. A 1-year old doesn't look 'stupid'.

Sweetpea55 · 04/08/2019 21:54

What a bloody childish idiot

Maemar · 04/08/2019 21:55

He is very strange OP. A baby grow which is too tight will be uncomfortable for the baby and seeing as you mentioned she will be 1 in a few weeks, the size you bought makes sense.

Teacakeandalatte · 04/08/2019 21:56

I think you need to tell him to catch himself on stop being so controlling and speaking to you rudely. You could buy her the most ill fiiting thing ever and it would not justify him talking to you that way.

Blueroses99 · 04/08/2019 21:57

I had a tiny baby so had to go by weight and/or length rather than age. I often skipped sizes, if I got lots of extra use out if one size, I agree there’s no point in getting lots of clothes for just a few weeks.

Sizes are averages so some almost one year olds would have grown out of 12-18 already!

gamerchick · 04/08/2019 21:59

Cut the feet off. A babygrow too little will be uncomfortable and can damage feet, although it won't be long before you change them I don't think. Baggy is better for bed.

I'd cut the feet off just for the sulk.

SarahAndQuack · 04/08/2019 22:00

This is surely about more than babygros?

DP and I buy DD all sorts - sometimes it's too big, sometimes too small, sometimes we mess up and both simultaneously buy her something so we need to return the surplus. IMO it's not that strange, given you have a baby and they grow. But bigger sizes are never an issue as you just put them away!

It sounds to me as if there is something else going on here, as no one would react this way otherwise. Can you ask him why it upset him so much?

(FWIW, my DP was brought up very badly off and for ages she found it hard not to go OTT buying DD clothes. Once I understood this I found it much easier to cope with that!)

transformandriseup · 04/08/2019 22:00

What a thing to be sulking over.

Cobblersandhogwash · 04/08/2019 22:01

Dickhead.

VeThings · 04/08/2019 22:02

I thought babies weren’t meant to wear tight babygrows around the feet as it could affect they way they grow?

If she’s in 6-9 months now, surely the next logical size up is 9-12, unless you have been really squashing her in the 6-9 month size?

stuckinthewrongbody · 04/08/2019 22:02

Thats the thing they grow so quickly! I had ds before meeting oh this is my second baby so i already know. With ds i bought everything to fit as i was quite young and stupid then and i said if i ever had another baby i would never do that again biggest waste of money ever so im not doing it.

Chickychoccyegg · 04/08/2019 22:04

He sounds like a right idiot, does he know you can buy whatever you like for your own child?
Is he always this ridiculous? i'd be really annoyed at being woken up for this nonsense

user1493413286 · 04/08/2019 22:04

I would have bought 9-12 as I think it’ll be a while until she fits into 12-18 if she’s only growing out of 6-9 now. However as it’s just for bed it’s not like it’s going to drag about when she crawls and no one will see and either way he’s completely over reacted. It’s a difference of opinion and not one to get stressed about.

Longdistance · 04/08/2019 22:05

‘Well, you’re the stupid one, as you could’ve went and got dd the ‘right’ size’.

stuckinthewrongbody · 04/08/2019 22:06

He's had the kids for a few hours on his own and he couldnt cope all i could hear was screaming. But he loves to tell me how easy i have it as a stahm and its a ''piece of piss'' in his words.Angry
