To be gutted that I don’t like my new mattress

We had our old mattress for years and years. It just came with the bed and was super cheap. Then it started to give me lower back ache in the morning.
Off we went to buy a new one. I did some research about what type to buy in line with my sleeping position etc. We found one we loved that should’ve been £1699 but it was an ex display one (in perfect condition) so it cost £700.
We’ve had it for 2 months now and I hate it! It’s too soft. I still get the back ache (though not as much).
We’ve just been on holiday for a week and I slept so well all week and now I’m back in my bed I could cry 😭
There are no guarantees with our mattress as it was ex display so we’re stuck with it!

Is it in good condition still? Could you sell it? Get a cheaper but more comfortable one maybe?

I have a memory foam topper on my mattress. I love it.

annie987 · 03/08/2019 10:54

It’s got a memory foam topper built in.
I’m tempted to just move the bed into my daughters room and buy a new one! She’s only 12 though, her room isn’t huge and it’s a super kingside bed🤦🏻‍♀️

I did the same. We bought an OTTY mattress and I hate it.

annie987 · 03/08/2019 10:55

What did you do?

I did exactly the same, annie987. I didn't try it even, bought it from Dreambeds or whatever they're called. It made me cry too. I stay away for most of the week with work and I hated going home because of it. I had zero backache until I slept on it.

Even though it was only 3 months old I bought a new one, having tried it in one of the hotels I was at (bought the same) and I don't care about that money wasted. My back is more important.

Don't look back. Sleep well. :)

Get a mattress topper. You can get orthopaedic ones and they will transform it. See if there are any where you can trial them for a few days and get a full refund if they aren’t quite right for you

MonChatEstMagnifique · 03/08/2019 10:56

You could try a mattress topper, some feel firmer than other so choose a firm one and it should help.

I hate our newish memory foam mattress. It’s hot and pushes me on to my shoulder. We turn it regularly but it has a large ridge down the middle. If I win the premium bonds I’m replacing it.

I bought a pocket spring mattress from Ikea (Firm) but it gave me such bad lower back pain, it was too firm Husband loves it though. It had a 90 day exchange guarantee and on the 89th day I caved and called Ikea. They came and took it away and delivered the same mattress but Firm-Medium.

This is just right for me. Didn’t tell DH 😂

AltheaVestr1t · 03/08/2019 10:59

I know it’s a bit late for this, but the bed in a box mattresses all have 3-6 month money back guarantees. Can you sell on eBay and buy a replacement?

Abraid2 · 03/08/2019 11:03

coffee was it the one called Harkran and something like that?

Coffeeandcherrypie · 03/08/2019 11:11

Mine’s the Hyllestad Abraid. Cost £250.

Abraid2 · 03/08/2019 11:47

Thank you! So many people have said good things about that one.
