dd iPhone screen broke and cost 35 to repair (not apple shop)
I have a galaxy s8 and as im very careful with my phones I thought rather than getting it insured as I don't have much spare money, I would just fork out to fix it if it broke ( 42 and never broke a phone in my life)

anyway last week dd(9) who is currently waiting for an ASD assessment was having a meltdown, snatched my phone from the side and threw it outside with such force the whole thing is cracked and the screen is just green.

I took it to same place dd1 has her iPhone fixed and they quoted me £180!!!

guess im not having a nice phone then...

Get a gorilla case once repair undertaken.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 02/08/2019 15:59

I hear you OP - I have a small crack on the side of mine and was shocked at repair quote!

GummyGoddess · 02/08/2019 16:04

Replace it yourself? It's surprisingly easy, YouTube jerryrigeverything and follow along. I get screens from replace base when doing repairs.

PennyGold · 02/08/2019 16:08

Samsung use super AMOLED screens (quality is incredible) but the screens are so much more expensive to make unfortunately.

BAYouTFall · 02/08/2019 16:10

Samsung screens have always been expensive! More so than the iPhones.

SavagelyGardening · 02/08/2019 16:11

I can't afford to replace it, so I'm just going to have to use this old slow one. I'm so upset, last time it came to upgrading I sold my brand new boxed upgrade in order to pay for kids Christmas presents and this is what I get. Along with my glasses broken and my watch thrown. I know it's only a phone I'm Just struggling at the minute and could have done without this.
I've looked at videos how to replace the screen, I could try but I don't think I could do it

I think it's strongly recommended you don't try to replace a Samsung screen. They are very different to iPhone screens.

Does your contents insurance definitely not cover it?

GummyGoddess · 02/08/2019 16:14

I promise it's easy, I replaced my HTC 10 screen and that's a mess inside and it was OK. If you're in Sussex I'll happily do it for you if you get the screen.

SavagelyGardening · 02/08/2019 16:17

I'm in Lancashire but thank you.
I don't even have contents insurance, I know I should but we've very little spare cash and not many expensive items

it's because it's a curved screen - that's why they're more expensive!

is it the same dd that broke her iphone screen?

if so, i'd be having her iphone off her as a replacement in the meantime!

SavagelyGardening · 02/08/2019 16:22

No unfortunately not. She doesn't have a phone, it's her big sister with the iphone

Just watched a video on how to do a Samsung screen replacement out of interest. You definitely don't want to be doing it imo.

DiscontinuedModelHusband · 02/08/2019 16:25

i'm a reasonably tech-savvy person, and will try a lot of stuff myself, but a broken phone screen? no chance.

FlorencesHunger · 02/08/2019 16:36

Could you put word out on your local pages asking for recommendations for someone to fix it. Some people might offer to do it on the cheap for side cash.

I'd get the new parts myself.
