To be disappointed that no one notices my weight loss?

Ok so I know that this sounds childish and attention seeking, but I can't help feeling a bit miffed.

I've lost a stone. It hasn't been easy. I wasn't very overweight to begin with, my bmi was just over 25, but I was tipping overweight and felt and looked rubbish, but I'm now in my healthy weight. I'd like to lose around another half a stone.

Nobody has noticed that I've lost any weight. At work or family and friends. I even asked my mum and she said that she couldn't really tell.

I don't know why I feel this way as I don't want a big fuss, but weight is a big talking point amongst my work colleagues and friends and family who usually notice minimal weight loss.

I know I'm being silly, it's just nice to have a bit of encouragement.

I live with a family member with an EO. I never, ever mention anyone’s weight. It’s too painful a topic.

Idontwanttotalk · 02/08/2019 17:08

One Stone is not a noticeable weight loss to people who see you very regularly (which is great because they won't have noticed you put it on either).

viques · 02/08/2019 17:36

Good for you! You have lost the weight without boring your entire world with every mouthful you have eaten, every length you have swum, every step you have taken ! For that achievement alone you deserve

Flowers

And more Flowers for the weight loss.

1805 · 02/08/2019 17:38

well done OP. I've recently lost a stone too and I found it really hard! No one has noticed on me either except for one person who said how great I was looking. It made me feel fabulous.
Personally I think people should compliment each other more. If you think someone looks good, say so. If you like their clothes, tell them.

well done again OP.

LenoVintura · 02/08/2019 17:45

There are quite a few women who come to the local fitness classes who are losing weight. I'd say it's not noticeable until it's a couple of stone, often more, especially if you're not that invested in noticing it. Most of us aren't really looking at or thinking about what others weigh tbh, even if we might notice every pound on ourselves Grin.

IsobelRae23 · 02/08/2019 17:57

Most people care about their own weight and not about others. So 1 stone loss may be a lot to you, and you notice your loss, but no one else notices or cares. It’s just the way people are. Just be happy with what you have managed, and stop caring about how others look to you.

Barbie222 · 02/08/2019 17:59

That's really annoying. I'd just announce it, "I've lost a stone, feeling really good, do these clothes look a bit baggy?" Everyone will say you look fab, etc.

edgen2019 · 02/08/2019 18:05

Well done Shopping on your weight loss that's a terrific achievement. I have lost three and a half stone, and the comments I usually get are "have you been ill?" Personally I wouldn't dream of commenting on anyone's weight, as its a personal thing. So keep going!

Buttons4me · 02/08/2019 18:21

You have done well op keep on going too. It took 3 stones for people to really notice my weight loss and I've had loads of comments since then people have told me i am amazing and someone said to me omg your tiny. It is lovely when people do notice and say nice comments as it is so hard loosing weight and we have done so well so for people to comment and notice can make you feel on top of the world. I'm sure people will notice op. Well done.

Ihatesundays · 02/08/2019 18:26

I’ve lost some weight - thing is it wasn’t that noticeable until I went past a stone. I lost weight from places likes my feet and boobs and lower arms.
It’s only since it’s started coming off my hips it’s become noticeable.

PickAChew · 02/08/2019 18:30

Another 3lb and you'll have people counselling you to be careful not to use too much.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 02/08/2019 18:31

I'm with MadFrogs, it's really annoying to me when people make personal comments, even if they're 'positive', I just don't like it.

If you said to me, "Can you notice I've lost weight?", I'd tell you, "You look great". Stock answer. Can't go wrong.

I personally find talking about weight the most boring subject in the world. I read threads about it, engage sometimes, find it interesting and then stop talking about it.

If you want people to notice, perhaps tell them that you've been on a diet?

Shoppingishardwork · 02/08/2019 18:33

Buttons it's true, I'd like to say I'm losing weight solely for myself, and yes, it is for myself and for the health benefits.

But of course I'd like to look better, clothes to fit better, so to think people could tell would be rewarding. Of course I understand why they haven't noticed/don't say anything.

bluegirlgreen, that's not very nice.

gotmychocolateimgood · 02/08/2019 18:35

My friend went from a size 14 to an 8 last summer and I couldn't put my finger on how she looked different for ages... Then it dawned on me that she was much slimmer! I'm not very observant, clearly.

dillusionaldog · 02/08/2019 18:48

OP im sure you look fab but this is just another side.... years ago we saw my DSister and it had been 2 months since we last saw her (shes at uni). She had lost just over a stone and looked far too skinny. She was perfect looking to begin with. She had clearly been swept up in it and didnt look well. It didnt look a healthy toned loss. Obviously we didnt want to be mean so just didnt say anything at all. We all (privately) had a word with our mum and she spoke to her about it and checked everything was ok.

Whatisinaname1 · 03/08/2019 09:19

I don't mention some of my friend's weight losses because i think they have issues with food in the first place so won't be drawn into it. Some get competitive and one was extremely poorly to lose the weight so i largely ignore it.

Unless i know they've been working to lose weight. Then i comment because i know it gives them confidence and a boost.

Adversecamber22 · 03/08/2019 09:27

I wouldn’t comment as worried it would appear rude, well done though op.

Now my sister has lost six stone and of course that’s very noticeable. DH was very much OMG I didn’t even recognise you, you look like a different person. I was cringing inside a bit. She seemed to lap it up though. He hadn’t seen her for two years.

Jaffacakebeast · 03/08/2019 09:56

Shifting a stone when you’re not overweight to start with is a massive achievement! Every1s knows the more you’ve got to go at the easier is it (90% of the time) don’t be disheartened that ppl haven’t mentioned it, it doesn’t mean they haven’t noticed, loads of reasons why ppl don’t mention it and jealousy is one of them

Parky04 · 03/08/2019 10:00

I never mention weight after I congratulated a work colleague about her weight loss. She had crohn's disease which meant her weight fluctuated. I felt awful.

Siameasy · 03/08/2019 16:36

It could be jealousy-I remember losing a few stone some years ago and I was pretty thin (a bit too thin in hindsight) and an ex-friend claimed to be unable to notice “you look the same”

Hotpinkangel19 · 03/08/2019 16:45

I've lost just over a stone and you can't really tell. Maybe that's the same with you too, in the nicest way?

imarocketman50 · 03/08/2019 16:57

I've lost over 2 stone in July but no one has noticed, probably cause I'm still in the same clothes. Refusing to buy new ones until they are falling off me lol.

houselikeashed · 03/08/2019 19:38

op - I've just lost 1.5 stones and no one has said anything.

However, going shopping for clothes in a smaller size was ace! Go shopping!
And well done. It's not easy!!

lljkk · 03/08/2019 19:43

I probably wouldn't notice. Sorry.
I'm reluctant to say anything when I do notice coz then how will you feel if you gain it back? Wouldn't want you to feel like a failure if you did gain back.
There are more important things to talk about.
