To think a ‘spa day’ sounds pretty miserable, really?

I just do not get why these are supposed to be relaxing. Or why they’re the MN cliche recommendation for frazzled mothers especially. People massaging you! And faffing around with your fingernails and toenails! And plastering your face in goo! If I wanted to be touched all the time and have yoghurt rubbed into my face I could just stay at home with my children.

I know different people like different things and all (although if you disagree with me you are objectively wrong obvs), but are there other people who shudder at the very thought of spa treatments?

There must be but moi is not one of them! Roll on the hot stones! GrinGrinGrin

HotChocolateLover · 01/08/2019 17:38

I love a spa day but if you like something different then that’s your prerogative.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 01/08/2019 17:38

Yes! The only Spa I'd want to spend a day at is a racetrack in Belgium!

53rdWay · 01/08/2019 17:39

HOT STONES? Is that not how they executed heretics during the Reformation?

Frangipane · 01/08/2019 17:39

Yep. Not interested in beauty treatments and wouldn't like bring touched by a stranger. My equivalent to a spa day would be a lovely walk somewhere in inspiring countryside with a scrumptious picnic provided by someone else.

I’m a believer! 🔥 🔥 🔥

Pineapplefish · 01/08/2019 17:43

I thought this too OP but then I tried one. Honestly it was absolute bliss!! I'm not really one for treatments, but going in the pool / steam room / jacuzzi, having a nice lunch, chatting to my friend and above all just relaxing in a stress free environment... heaven.

Don't knock it till you've tried it!

WorraLiberty · 01/08/2019 17:44

Grin Grin Grin

Spa days are definitely not my thing. If I wanted to get out and relax I'd go for lunch/dinner with a friend and probably the theater or cinema.

Alpacathebag · 01/08/2019 17:44

You know you can go to the spa with It being touched? Somewhere like ragdale hall that has lots of aqua thermal rooms and pools is lovely.

MrsGrannyWeatherwax · 01/08/2019 17:45

It’s the quiet room to just sit in with a lovely drink and read, followed by a swim, then some more peace... then another swim (ahhh I wish I had one on the horizon!)

baubled · 01/08/2019 17:45

To be honest, I would like anything if it was a day off from normal life. A spa, a county walk, mountain hike, shopping, rock climbing, sleeping 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gingerkittykat · 01/08/2019 17:45

I love a good spa day.

You get to swim a couple of lengths so pretend you have exercised, get lovely looking nails or a nice massage, sit in a jacuzzi (I don't have a bath at home so never get to wallow), lie on a sunbed, wander round in a robe and eat some nice food and drink some nice cocktails.

I had one of those foot massages once and it was rubbish, also depends on the spa. Banantynes was predictably not a nice environment but one I go to in the Highlands has lovely views over greenery and if the weather is nice you get to sit and eat and drink on the terrace where ducks come and visit you.

growlingbear · 01/08/2019 17:46

I LOVE spa days. Only had two in my life but had a few trips to steam baths and saunas. I love drifting from one hot pool to another, sitting in the sauna or steam room then diving into the plunge pool. Last one I had with friends, sipping champagne in an outdoor infinity pool looking out over snow capped mountains felt like it lasted forty minutes, We were there for eight hours. Time flew by. I'm not wild about massage and strangers touching me but you can spend all day in water. Bliss.

FadedRed · 01/08/2019 17:46

I’m with DanielRiciardosSmile here Grin, wouldn’t do a spa-day if you paid me, but each to their own....
Once had a ‘team building day’ at a Spa 😱. TB stuff in the morning, then lunch, then we could use the facilities/treatments etc. I went home as soon as I could after lunch. Thanks but no thanks. Bad enough with friends, but the people one works with in swimsuits or dressing gown?!!!

LatteLove · 01/08/2019 17:47

This! Being able to relax by the pool or in the hot tub, leisurely swim, being able to read my book in peace...love it!

I don’t like treatments or massages

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 01/08/2019 17:47

Not fussed about treatments but I like swimming pools/jacuzzis/steam rooms etc. Nirvana by reading is fab, you can just drift around trying all the pools and have a cake in the cafe.

Heyha · 01/08/2019 17:47

I'm going to make myself wound a right nob here but I really enjoyed the spa at centre parcs the one time we went. Lots of nice rooms to sit and relax in and a lovely warm but quiet pool. You can keep your goos and massages but wandering around the rest of it was really relaxing.

CookPassBabtridge · 01/08/2019 17:49

I used to feel the same until I went on one.. I've never been so relaxed. The massage is just one part of it (and it was amazing) but the whole place is very quiet, very clean and comfy, lots of different steam rooms and pools to try.. it's hard to describe, I just enjoyed the peace and the sensations on my body, came out feeling more relaxed than I ever have.

CookPassBabtridge · 01/08/2019 17:50

Yeah mine was at centre parcs too, was very impressed.

NoLeopard · 01/08/2019 17:50

Half the time it's the 'Center Parcs syndrome' where the poopooers can't understand the fuss and sneer but have never been! I love them.

Oblomov19 · 01/08/2019 17:51

I haven't been on for one for years, but I really enjoy them. Just because You don't op, surely it's not beyond your comprehension that lots of people do?

NoLeopard · 01/08/2019 17:53

Ooh gingerkitty what didn't you like about Bannantynes? I bought someone a voucher for there recently based on a recommendation. Which one did you go to?

Heyha · 01/08/2019 17:54

Actually thinking about it you asked specifically about treatments. Yes, I detest them 😂 I can just about cope with a head massage.

53rdWay · 01/08/2019 17:55

Yes it is, Oblomov. Entirely beyond my comprehension. Like people who nibble the chocolate off KitKats.

Quiet room with a book and pool access I can see the appeal of, mind...

If I could afford it I’d have a spa day once a month! Facial, massage, head massage
