It's my first day in a new job, I want to run away. Please keep me grounded!

I've been given a supervisory position at Costa.
I'm making fucking mistakes everywhere. I cried in front of everyone, I've dropped a cup which smashed, I've tripped on tables and I feel like I'm getting in the way of other people trying to work.

My eyes won't stop watering and I want to walk out so bad!! I've been working since 5 and I've got a half hour break but I can't take anymore embarrassment
😭

You'll look back on this and laugh... take a deep breath and you'll be fine. Ppl make mistakes, dust yourself off and don't dwell on it.

transformandriseup · 01/08/2019 15:43

^Because OP dropped a cup on her first day? Don’t be rediculous

peardrops1 · 01/08/2019 15:46

Well done on getting through it, OP!!! It'll gradually get easier - hang in there.

Ditto22 · 01/08/2019 16:16

I've had similar first days in similar roles. It doesn't help that it's the sort of job where your are constantly working and your mistakes are instantly visible (sitting at a computer type jobs allow you to hide and save up all your questions for a colleague!) Everyone doing this type of work will have had similar experiences for the first few weeks! Don't let any nasty colleague undermine you either - just do your best and you will learn.

PixieLumos · 01/08/2019 16:48

Your first day will never be your best day. Chin up, it can only get better (just don’t spill anything on the customers).

PolkadotLollipop · 01/08/2019 19:30

Congrats on the new job, OP. First day/first week nerves are common and normal, especially in a customer/public facing role. You can do it.

AquaPris · 01/08/2019 22:14

It's just a cup. Happens all the time.

I once went to serve a jug of water to a table of OAPs and tipped the tray and poured a litre of iced water over an 80 year old woman. Now that was bad.

Looks like the negative Nelly's were right Sad I just got fired 😓😓

OP posts:
Rivkka · 04/08/2019 19:38

Oh no that's crap op Thanks

AntiHop · 04/08/2019 19:39

Oh no. :(

S1naidSucks · 04/08/2019 19:42

I’m so sorry, OP. That seems really unfair.

peardrops1 · 04/08/2019 20:03

Oh shit! Really sorry, OP. That must feel horrible. Please try not to see it as a reflection on your overall character/ worth - loads of people have been fired from a job at some point or another and years on it's usually just a funny story (mine is, anyway!).

Babyroobs · 04/08/2019 20:05

Fired on your first day ? That's so unfair.

SauvignonBlanche · 04/08/2019 20:08

Sorry to hear that Flowers

Bluntness100 · 04/08/2019 20:09

Why did they fire you op? That's seems very fast?

JustMe9 · 04/08/2019 20:09

How can they fire people on their first day?? Bastards!

Bluntness100 · 04/08/2019 20:11

I don't think the op was fired on her first day based on the thread timing, more like the third or fourth. But still very fast indeed. Hence my question on why?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 04/08/2019 20:20

Sorry you were fired but I just don't understand why they would've given a supervisor job to someone with zero experience of either the actual job or of having been responsible for other staff before.

aibutohavethisusername · 04/08/2019 20:25

Sorry to hear that. Did they say why?

Sugarformyhoney · 04/08/2019 20:55

Sorry you were fired OP
I had s similar experience in a fast food chain- took the job because I was desperate for the money and it was hideous. Was given barely any help and sneered at by staff who’d worked there for years for not knowing the systems and messing up on the till 😂
Anyway I jumped before I was pushed most likely- went on lunch and never went back. It made me realise that working in that industry is definitely not for me and spurred me on to return to uni. My current job is amazing and I’m super glad of all the crap jobs that pushed me to get here.
Still see the same people in the fast food place when I pop there on occasion- guess they must really like it!

Coronapop · 04/08/2019 21:01

Stop doing things and just supervise. Sounds like you are trying to do too much yourself.

MarthasGinYard · 04/08/2019 21:04
Sad

Sorry to hear that

SauvignonBlanche · 04/08/2019 21:10

For the love of God will people please RTFT before posting your ‘advice’ Hmm

IncrediblySadToo · 05/08/2019 02:09

Sauvignonblanc ONE PERSON commented clearly not having read the update ONE calm down

OP that’s utterly crap if them to fire you before you’d barely started! Their loss my lovely... hope you find something even better soon 🌷
