Pesto pasta left out overnight?

Scottishgirl85 · 01/08/2019 06:56

Quick poll - stupidly left freshly made pesto pasta out of fridge all night. Is it safe to eat? It was for the kid's lunchboxes... I'm assuming needs to go in bin 😔

Personally I wouldn’t as it’s not just me eating it and therefore potentially just me getting ill but others will say it’s fine.

Bluntness100 · 01/08/2019 07:02

I wouldn't give it to children, no. Food starts to deteriorate three hours after being left out the fridge. As in that's when bacteria starts to grow. I wouldn't chance it with children.

Hadjab · 01/08/2019 07:02

I do this quite often, never been ill because of it.

PooWillyBumBum · 01/08/2019 07:03

I would if the kitchen was cool and it smelled and tasted okay but maybe I’m just a skanky bitch. Quite often leave veg curries on the hob with a lid on overnight in winter Blush

WaitingForAGovernment · 01/08/2019 07:03

I’d risk it. My mum does much worse in terms of leaving stuff overnight to cool, and I’ve never been ill from her cooking.

AgentProvocateur · 01/08/2019 07:04

It will be absolutely fine.

growlingbear · 01/08/2019 07:04

What ingredients in it could go off? Oil is a preservative, garlic an antibacterial and cheese is a way of processing dairy so it stays fresh at room temperature. Only the basil, if fresh, could get a bit limp and slimy and off putting.

I would assume it's OK.

Parkandride · 01/08/2019 07:04

I'd eat it, nothing I'd consider high risk in there and its been a cool night here.

Get a dog, you won't be able to leave anything out Wink

PilatesPeach · 01/08/2019 07:04

No, it is still quite warm overnight and I wouldn't risk it as who wants kids with upset tummies that would be more stress than making them something else for lunchboxes

BigSandyBalls2015 · 01/08/2019 07:04

Veggie it’ll be fine

forkfun · 01/08/2019 07:05

Yes, of course it's fine. Unless your kitchen was very warm overnight.

user1471520545 · 01/08/2019 07:06

Definitely not. Someone died recently after eating pasta that had been left out (for five days) www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6638715/20-year-old-American-student-mysteriously-died-sleep-eating-simple-meal.html

carlywurly · 01/08/2019 07:09

Ds and I'd be long dead if pesto pasta were a risk. I'm always doing exactly this - make a batch for dinner, it sits in either the pan or in a bowl in the microwave overnight and ds snaffles it for lunch the next day. It's horrid once it's gone in the fridge.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 01/08/2019 07:10

Five days is very different from overnight though ...

PooWillyBumBum · 01/08/2019 07:10

User that American student left it out for five days not 12 hours.

CasperGutman · 01/08/2019 07:11

I'd eat it, but is that "YABU" or "YANBU"?

BarbaraofSeville · 01/08/2019 07:14

There's a big difference between overnight and five days though!

I leave food out overnight all the time and am never ill.

I despair about all this perfectly good food that is thrown away because people think that unless you stick to ridiculously cautious food safety guidelines to the letter, it will instantly kill you.

KnittingForMittens · 01/08/2019 07:14

I always do it because I forget to put it in the fridge as I go bed and only realise in the morning... I just put it back in the fridge and still consume it. It has never done us any harm but I suppose it only takes one time.

plasterboots · 01/08/2019 07:16

No problem at all

grumiosmum · 01/08/2019 07:17

It will be fine.

No meat or fish or eggs in it.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/08/2019 07:17

I’d bin it. Pasta and rice are supposed to be quite dangerous if not properly cooled and refrigerated. Pasta and pesto is cheap at least.

londonrach · 01/08/2019 07:18

No...its the pasta part that dangerous. Bin it its not worth it

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 01/08/2019 07:19

I'd eat it because the ingredients are very low risk.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/08/2019 07:19

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 01/08/2019 07:19

Oh maybe pasta isn't low risk according to others Blush
