Just seen this on my local town Facebook group.....I can’t believe that someone would confront someone with a blue badge for parking in a p&c space.....especially as it’s massive carpark and there were loads of spaces...! [pic edited out by MNHQ - OP do feel free to repost having obscured the number plate below]

The P&C spaces mafia are bona fide insane.

Not because of the rights or wrongs of the situation. Just the sheer insanity of being that upset or stressed about something so fundamentally minor.

iheartroycropper · 30/07/2019 13:23

Parents get very very entitled over p&c spaces , you only need to see the multiple threads on here.
One recently someone got a space and then challenged grandparents with children who they deemed too old to be suitable for the spaces. I mean , who really has the time or the enthusiasm to care about this stuff

IAskTooManyQuestions · 30/07/2019 13:27

You're showing that number plate, it's identifiable, it can be obtained through the DVLA

ScottishJo31 · 30/07/2019 13:29

Whoops just realised that... how can I edit?

missmouse101 · 30/07/2019 13:29

Ridiculous. It also looks like the writer of that piece is about 3. Can barely string a sentence together, or use punctuation. 'Of' instead of 'have'? Yuk.

missmouse101 · 30/07/2019 13:30

How is viewing a numberplate a problem? You just have to step outside and they're available for all to see!

ChinookPilotsGoVertical · 30/07/2019 13:33

If someone "confronted" me I'd assume that they were looking for a fight.

Alsohuman · 30/07/2019 13:37

You always get an arsehole, don’t you? Hope you put them straight, OP.

DadDadDad · 30/07/2019 13:39

I think it's a completely misguided to confront the driver in cases like this. You know how it's a MN cliche with MIL problems to say "actually, you have DH problem". Well, when it comes to Parent and Child problem parkers, I think you actually have a problem with the supermarket.

I get that there is a certain satisfaction with having a go at someone parked in a P&C space who doesn't have children, but what's it ultimately going to achieve? It's the supermarket who have offered these spaces for the convenience of their customers, and it's they who either care or don't care that they are being misused.

If people complain to the supermarket whenever the P&C spaces are full, and point out their suspicions about who is using them, there is a chance that the problem will actually be addressed. The supermarket can decide how it's going to police these spaces. If the supremarket does make the effort, then that solves the problem long-term and deals with the whole class of offenders (unlike ranting at one smug git in the car park, who will shrug their shoulders and do it again, or will be replaced by another smug git tomorrow). If the supermarket doesn't bother, then that tells you that P&C spaces are just a cosmetic gesture and you can take your custom elsewhere.

I took my kids to a park yesterday. It has two car parks ones a general car park at the park gates (minutes walk to center of park) the other right next to cafe /swings is for blue badge holders (I am a blue badge holder so parked there). Of 12 cars only 2 had blue badges all had car seats in! Its hard struggling in and out of a car with little ones (I understand I've been through it) but bare in mind it can be impossible for a blue badge holder to get out of the car if they can't park in a wide space. On private land the blue badge holder doesn't have the right to park in parent and child spaces however most companys are not opposed to a blue badge holder parking in p and c if there are no blue badge spots.

pelirocco123 · 30/07/2019 13:42

Disabled driver trumps parents and child everytime

picklemepopcorn · 30/07/2019 13:42

I hope s9meone on the post is putting them right, @ScottishJo31 ?

DadDadDad · 30/07/2019 13:44

IAskTooManyQuestions - you're right, I can go on the DVLA website and it tells me that the car is a grey Peugeot and that its tax renewal is due in January. Giving away all this stranger's secrets! Shock

ScottishJo31 · 30/07/2019 13:44

I hope so too.. was sent this via a friend but apparently a lot are agreeing with her! 🤬

Hi there OP. We've removed the pic in your original post now. If you want to edit the snap and then repost it here, that's fine. We've pointed to it in the edited OP now so people should find it ok.

HidingRealName · 30/07/2019 13:51

As far as I know, p&c spaces are courtesy only. Who ever took the pic should complain to the organisation providing the spaces to see if they want to enforce them or not.

It amazes me how many people get their knickers in a twist over P&C spaces.

shiningstar2 · 30/07/2019 13:54

It is shocking that anyone able bodied with even small kids would begrudge a blue badge holder a parking space. They don't hand blue badges out unless u have genuine mobility problems. Even if not wheelchair users they are people who genuinely can't walk far. My mother is a blue badge holder at aged 88. She only does local day time driving and the blue badge keeps her mobile and independent. She wouldn't be able to do her own shopping, attend doctor or other appointments without it.

Yes I know managing a baby and a difficult toddler is not easy plus shopping plus buggy and it would be maddening if able bodied people were just taking advantage ...but blue badge holders who can't get a spot in a disabled bay? No way would I begrudge walking further for them. I am a grannie and I can do it with two under 3s. I'd rather not of course but would not mumble to myself if I couldn't get a closer space because of a disabled or very elderly person with mobility difficulties. In this case even less point? In an empty car park ...just what was the point.

Unfortunately some people like to 'challenge' whether the full circumstances are known to them or not. My friend who is a nurse in a unit dealing with amputation often remarks on how judgemental people can be. She told me of a young man who told her he had parked in a disabled bay and had been 'challenged' by someone shouting at him 'some people really need these bays you know'. He calmly rolled up his trouser leg to show no leg below the knee. He said he could walk there ok but was just getting used to his situation and could walk in and get around the shop but his 'leg' would be really aching by the time he came out and he didn't feel able to walk to the back of the car park after an hour's shopping. She said she wasn't surprised when he told her this. Had heard similar before. Best to give the benefit of the doubt I think even when convinced people have no need of the space.

MrMeSeeks · 30/07/2019 13:54

Disabled beats p&c. Your friend is an idiot.

ScottishJo31 · 30/07/2019 13:55

She’s not a friend!! It’s someone who lives locally to me who posted on group I have no idea who she is

OP posts:
BlankTimes · 30/07/2019 13:56

P+C spaces are not enforceable, they are a courtesy, anyone can park in them. There's usually a sign requesting people to only use the spaces if they have young children with them, but that's all it is.

People who have a Blue Badge have a disability. Blue Badge spaces have to be provided by law.

For whatever reason, in the OP, the person with the Blue Badge thought that particular space was the most convenient for their needs at that time and used it. There should be no 'challenge' by anyone else in those circumstances.

In my local supermarkets there are many more P+C spaces than disabled spaces. If the disabled spaces are all full which is very often, my family member with a BB will park in a P+C space as the wider space makes it easier for them to get out of the car.

MyHeadIsBursting · 30/07/2019 14:01

I hope everyone told her on the comments that she was being utterly unreasonable and a total arsehole! Who the fuck challenges a blue badge holder?

Kerrywerrywoo1 · 30/07/2019 14:03

Anyone who write ‘cuz’....you know they are proper chavs
